I'm trying to overclock my i7 up to 4.0ghz but i'm having some problems.

I'm using the i7 Overclocking Guide For Beginners that i found on another forum, as a reference.

I can get the system running stable at 3.4ghz with a vcore of 1.10000, but now when i try going to 3.8ghz with a vcore of 1.2 the system blue screens after 5-10 mins of running prime95.

I tried increasing the vcore some more but then the temperatures start getting above 80 degrees. Can anyone help me to get the system stable at as close to 4.0 as possible?

Specs:

CPU:i7 920
Motherboard:Gigabyte-EX58-UD3R
RAM-Corsair 6GB 1600Mhz DDR3 Triple Channel
PSU-Corsair TX 650w
Cooler-Akasa Nero

I set the QPI voltage to 1.315 and it blue screened after about 30 secs in prime, DRAM frequency is at auto, is that ok? Trying again with a little more vcore, also, what temps should i try to keep it below? 80c?

Sorry about the lack of details in the first post, Load-Line Calibration is already enabled, it's stable so far at about 1.21 vcore but was hoping it would go a little lower.

Tried it at 4.0ghz with 1.28vcore, can't even get into windows, blue screens before that.

Think i might just stick with 3.8ghz and make sure it's stable, my temperatures reach 80-85 degrees with 1.25vcore so i think it would be too high at 4.0ghz with 1.28v.

Is there really much of a difference between 3.8 and 4.0 anyway?

I'm not sure if i can put another fan on it.

I moved my pc into another case with better air flow a few days ago, i reseated the cpu and replaced the thermal paste.

It was even worse in my old case, not sure why it's so hot.

I'm using the 20x multiplier which is the highest for my motherboard, but it's on turbo mode which adds an extra 1x multiplier, and uncore is at auto.

I might have to get myself another cooler then.

Got it to boot up at 4.0ghz using 1.268vcore, just testing for stability and checking what the temperatures are like.

Edit: Do you think a new cooler would fix the problem with the temperatures? Currently running at 80-85c.

Well the case it's in now has pretty good airflow, and the room temperature isn't too warm.

So i think it's either the cooler struggling to cool the cpu or maybe i just haven't seated it/applied the thermal paste properly.

Went and bought a new cooler, now running at 4.0ghz with 1.248vcore at around 70 degrees under full load. Trying to get it stable at 4.0ghz now.

Thanks for the help.

Blue screened when i left it running prime overnight. It ran error free for at least 1-2 hours before i left it, not exactly sure when it crashed though.

Settings were, 191 Bclk,20x Multi,Turbo Mode Enabled, 1.28vcore with load line calibration enabled, DRAM frequency 1523,Uncore 3046, QPI Voltage 1.315v ,DRAM Voltage 1.66v.

Any Suggestions?

PC just randomly restarted after about 80 mins in prime, no blue screen or anything, what would cause this? Settings are still the same as above.

I'm looking in the event viewer right now, what code is it that i should be looking for?

Edit: It says Event ID-41 Source-Kernel Power, is that it?

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a
(0x00000001401a3aa3, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000008, 0xfffff80002a9c969).
A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 043011-84256-01.

This is the only event with a code like that, it happened after about 4 hours when i left it overnight.

Tried again at 1.25vcore and then again again with the vcore up a notch. Got BSOD twice, Codes are:

0x0000001E and 0x00000024, what do they mean? Do i just need more vcore?
