Hi all, this is my first time here and i need some help.
I wont to have a go at overclocking my motherboard and processor. but i dont really know the first thing about all this
with the help of my dad who has bought me my first pc stuff.

Ive got a intel Q9650
with a asus rampage formula 775 ddr2
with 2gig ram
and a 8800gt graphic card
with a 600w power supplie.

Can anyone give my some help with trying to overclock the processor for the first time.
Thank you all David

You should look at getting a good CPU cooler first, the stock Intel ones wont get you very far.
A Titan Fenrir is a solid start, Prolimatech megahelems or TRUE are pretty top-end solutions.
Without good cooling you are endangering your processor.

If you can wait and save a bit more, the better the cooler you start off with will help get better clocking speeds. and lower temps. it would be a bit of a waste of money to get one now. an a better one when you have more money. you can get a good one for about 50-60. should get clocking speeds of around 3.8-4gb. but if you wanted to go higher waters the answer.

Am running sim set up to you mobo/cpu. and am struggling to get over 3.8 stable. my full watercooling is wasted on such low clock speeds. so it would also depend on how good your x48 chip is.

The Titan Fenrir kept my Q9550 happy - 50/44/46/46 tho at relatively low clocks around 3.3GHz where the board limited it.
It is a decent cooler, will do you well though not likely to push the boundaries of air cooled setups.
