not sure if this is the correct place to post as it is my first, i recently received my new rig from ocuk, for the most part i am very pleased with it my only issue is that it didnt come overclocked

so rather than wasting the majority of my xmas trying to get through to them on the phone i went into the BIOS to see if there was anything in there to overclock it.

one of the options i think is "Dummy O.C" when u go into that option you are given the following :-

default
+5%
+10%
+15%
+20%
+25%

so i set it to 25% and saved settings, once i rebooted it seems that i managed to overclock it since a couple of cpu tests reported that my system had gone from 2.4ghz to 3.0ghz (this is what it was advertised as when i purchased it)

now onto my problem i seem to be getting random blue screens and 90% of programs and games crash within 5 minutes, i know there must be a problem with overclocking it somewhere because when i return it to default everything runs smoothly.

now im not saying i know what im doing ;) and that i have overclocked it correctly but if i have missed something out any help would be much appreciated.
 
if it should have been overclocked (ie the product description said so) I would suggest you speak to OCUK for their reccomendations.

if not
there are lots of general overclocking how to guides on these forums.
If you detailed your spec, then people might be able to reccomend good starting points for the voltages (northbridge, southbridge, PLL, CPU, Dimss etc).
 
Thats strange the overclock might have failed and gone back to default settings or possibly not overclocked at all.

When you overclocked using the 25% setting it may be a couple of things thats making your computer freeze, either not enough cpu voltage or most likely the memory multiplier needs altering so that the memory is not being overclocked.
 
This is'nt the first time they have sent out a pc that has not been as described. There have been a few threads recently with similar problems. At over £1300 i would expect better than this. Get in touch with them via webnote or phone and get them to sort it. No way should you have to do their job for them.
 
Yeah the percentage based OC's tend to suck in my experience, you're much better off doing it manually.
Firstly reset it all to default
Then select manual OC
Raise your FSB
Adjust RAM speed/multiplier (this will automatically increase when you raise FSB, bring it back down to its rated speed or lower)
set your RAM voltage to its rated specification (available from vendors website)
This should then be your system OC'd and stable as its quite a mild OC, if its not stable try raising your CPU voltage slightly, if you need any further help check the rest of the forums
 
I've never managed a stable overclock above 10% using my Asus P5K-E mobo's auto overclock,
& playing GTAIV it won't let me do more than 5% without a crash, other games no problem tho
 
thanks for replies guys, i think im best getting someone on phone to run me through it coz i dont have a clue wen it comes to manual overclocking :P

is it going to be a case of trial and error, or will ocuk know exactly what the limits are for everything?
 
3Ghz is quite a mild OC so they should be able to tell you the exact settings straight away, emphasis on the should though there are no guarantees, then afterwards once youre comfortable if you want to take it furtehr thats a trial and error process
