I'm looking for some advice and guidance on Overclocking.

When I first got my custom build from OcUK I tried to overclock to see what sort of boost I could potentially get if I ever needed it.

I used the onboard Asus automatic overclock.

This resulted in my Windows O/S becoming corrupted so I had to do a wipe and reinstall.

Being a n00b and not knowing that Overclocking caused my O/S issues I tried the same thing again, of course the same issue happened again.

Both times the O/S didn't boot it just corrupted it straight away.

With the overclock on I was unable to install windows as well.

So I've since taken it all off and have been running stock for the last month.

What am I doing wrong?

My specs are:

O/S - Windows 8.1

PC:

Asus Z97i-Plus
4690k Devils Canyon w/ H80i cooler.
16GB Kingston Hyper X 1866
970 GTX
PSU - SuperFlower 550w Golden Green

Did you buy it as a bundle or a full working rig from OCUK?

As most of their bundles or prebuilt PC's come with the overclock already setup for you.

Hi,

I bought it as a full rig without the option to overclock as it was extra. So I never had it overclocked.

Kind of wish I did but at the time they said it'll only be 4.0GHz I thought I would be able to get more out of it.

When you've tried overclocking it yourself have you manually done the settings or allowed the motherboard to auto clock?

Always done the auto overclock. I've been too scared to try it manually cause of it seeming like a waste of time if I have to reinstall windows each time.

Should that happen each time?
