Overclocking make up for lack of minimum support??

Basically I'm looking to replace my gtx 750 with something better, but affordable and I've seen a gtx 660 DirectU ll OC 2gb for £30, however I want to play no mans sky, so as usual I use the Game-Debate :can run it feature and this card is grey and only good for low-medium, if that card can overclock then would it make up for anything?

On the other hand a hd 7870 (£50) and a gtx 760 (£70) both 2gb are green and suggest medium-high, so are my alternatives currently, was a 2gb 960 for £105, but be no better certainly for price.


I know from experience overclocking the 750 Model I had before the one I got now was okay improving certain games and a 750ti barely improved in the division.

I would look at a used 7950 and overclock the nuts off it

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I haven't been seeing any of those lately, not within a 50 mile radius that I can collect and last 1 I saw was like £100, upto £70 is what I can do right now, I'm not after high performance, I've still only got an i3, but I have been wanting a 660 for a while, but if I want to play no mans sky(long way from a PS4 owning) it might be a waste of £30 unless its performance can be improved.

I'd quite like the 7850/7870 for their very good overclocking, but I had a 270x and while the fps was higher, fallout 4 played worse than a gtx 560 superclock which is another game I want to play again so ideally I'm after nvidia based.

Found a 680 for £75, but It's quite power hungry.


But aside from that are you implying with your suggestion then that the 660 wouldn't be a wise purchase in general or if I want to overclock this won't nor will it improve performance good enough if it did? No man sky isn't a big(oh I must play it) game, just can't afford a PS4 lol
