What software do i need for temperature and overclocking the card and testing my overclocks

EDIT - What does changing the bios settings do for the pci-e clocks its at 100 atm and i heard between 101-110? anyother commands to change btw running sata raid 0 2 36gig raptors at 10,000

My spec:

i cant overclock my cpu as its a clawhammer and it wont take anymore after exactly 2520/2530ish

However when i add shadows to my game i get 63fps yet take them off i get 78
Surely overclocking my graphics card would benefit me correct?

I also ran my game at 800x600 and 1240 x 1028 and there was no fps difference i was still getting 60 so that means its my graphics card correct?

I'm sure you could pick up a opteron 144 that'll crack 2.9ghz from auction sites for less than a round of drinks.

if you want to get the best from your 3800 series card there are 3 steps to follow

1. fit an arctic accelero s-1 (cheap and better than watercooling in my opinion)
2. use a modded bios from here http://www.iax-tech.com/video/3800biosmod/03.htm these bios's are dogs danglies
3. try different pci-e frequencies ranging from 101 to 110, these are perfectly safe levels if your running sata drives, if you use ide drives then you can go up to 120

also take a look at this thread

Unless the CPU is handling the shadows?

idd it could be... is there anyway to tell, *** about enabling shadows at 1280x1024 then gonig 800x600 if it gives me more fps then that means its my CPU correct?

an opteron 14x get that high?

mate i wouldnt invest in old hardware, but if you cant afford a whole upgrade

2nd hand e6600 - £50
ram 2gb - £20 to £50 depending on quality and if 2nd hand or not
motherboard - £50 to £100 depending on 2nd hand or not

for £120 you could have a system 3 times the speed of your current setup if you can clock that e6600 to 3.2ghz and above, my e6600 does 3.6ghz

by looking at your spec the cpu is the weak point, you may also have vsync enabled, either in drivers or in game, i would save up £150 and get a whole new ram,cpu and mobo, plus you could sell your old parts for £50 combined, meaning your upgrade could cost as little as £70 depending on which route you wanna go down

if you need help with builing a new spec, im sure i could help you find budget parts which pack a serious punch

how does an opteron 165 sound Stepping: CCBBE0616XPMW
How much are they priced at too?

Will that overclock to my current cpu or about? also will i notice a gain on games ? my mobo supports upto 475 or something FSB and Ram is not the best pc 3200 200mhz 2gig

regarding the above though, i kind of wished i had done that but i have bought this 3850 and used it so i cant send it back, and it wont be very good if i UPGRADE the full system will it?

do you really want to go to all that trouble, you will need to run dividers, your mobo might not even handle it, your cooling may not be up to it, opterons should clock to

2.6ghz to 3ghz

i would say 2.6 just to be safe, this is equal to a core 2 duo at 2ghz or there abouts, they probably cost about £40, i would value them at £20, the reason why they cost double is because they are now extremely rare

seriously save up for an intel setup, their penryns will be launching within a month or two, all intel cpu's will crumble in price when they do launch, but i have heard they will now be slowing down launched because AMD simply cant compete, they now have a monopoly on the market

read my posts thoroughly this is copied from the above

i cant see myself getting an e6600 for £50 and surely a 3850 is poor compare to a 8800gt correct if i was to get that setup?

below is from members market

Intel E6550 - Retail boxed, fully working, never clocked in case you ask :p Would like £60 inc RMSD SOLD PENDING TO AXER

it sold for £55

As per title we have;

Intel C2D E6600 3.6Ghz stable verified running on air, Tuniq Tower 120!.

Chip is ready to be shipped.

Has been in my main rig for over a year now clocked at this speed. Never once had a hiccup, this is backed up by the 8 hours stable verification in Orthos.

Asking £65 Including Delivery via 1st Class Recorded. Payment can be taken via Paypal (Providing fees are covered) or Bank Transfer. Paypal is preferred due to a quick and fast transaction.

Chip will come with box but without cooler to save on postage. Cooler can be provided at a minimal cost!

that one sold for £65 due to it being able to do 3.6ghz easy on air

you should get a normal e6600 for £50-£55

the 8800gt is gonna cost you more money, and without a decent setup it will be useless, you have a decent card, if you want to see good performance from it you need to upgrade your rig, i cant see how i can help you any further on the matter, you need a decent rig, which you could get easily for £150 with ram being dirt cheap just now, you need to make another 120 posts before you can access the members market, spamming aint allowed, so go through every part of the forum, general discussion is best, see threads you like and post in them, when you hit 250 enable your trust then members market will become unlcoked

just found this in members market

Opteron 165 with HSF £45 inc

totally pointless as for £10 more you could get an e6600, end of the day its up to how much your willing to spend
