Just decided to give it a go, upped the fsb to 275, then 280 and its fine, running stress test now, temps seem okish (i put my thermal paste on dodgy lol) but i tried upping it to 290 and it wouldnt start windows for some reason, and thats only about 2.3ghz!, im running it at 2.24ghz now and its fine, but i want to get higher, my memory is geil 6400 (4gb) and im running a p35-ds3p, my memory is at 44412 and running at 2.1v, do i need to change the multiplyer or something? (its at 8).

If the memory is running much above stock, 800Mhz, at those timings you will probably need more memory voltage. The best thing to do is to slacken the timings to take the memory out of the equation. 15-5-5-5 will be fine. You should be able to overcock the chip much better once you have done this and when you have found how high the chip goes, you can start optimising the memory.

Hope this helps.

Put your memory on FSB:RAM at 1:1 timmings 4-4-4-12, 2.1V
FSB at 400 Mhz, multi x8 . cpu voltage at 1.375v to try later can go down
and give it a go, that way your cpu is doing 3.2Ghz.

i dont want to increase any volts yet, its running a bit to hot for my liking atm, i want to get to 2.8ghz.

but thanks, what settings would you put for 2.8?

hmm.. well cpu-z says that its running at 420mhz with FSB:DRAM at 2:3, so you reckon i should loosen the timmings?

420 is actually 840 and I don't think your memory will work at those speeds with those timings. Slacken timings and reduce multiplier then you will be able to mess around with the fsb.

ok thanks ill give this all ago later, ive put it back at stock for now, because after a 10 minute prime95 test i got an error!, probably because i havnt really adjusted any settings except cpu fsb. (this was only at 2.24ghz)

That's not hot! Most people are happy with full load temps of around 65 degrees. 72 is apparently a safe top. Also bear in mind, the temps you get when running prime will rarely, if ever, be used in normal use.

The Geil Pc6400 c4 wil do easily 900 Mhz, 800 Mhz is 400 FSB with standard timings meaning 2.1V for the ram, 400 FSB should be reacheble with 1.3V on the cpu

ok running with the memory at 2.1v and i had to put the timings back to 5-5-5-15, but its at 2.4ghz now and seems stable, did the cpu test on prime95, also blend to test memory and all seems ok atm.

Where should i go from here?

edit: holy ****, my ram usage is at 3.83gb!

Not for E6x00s, thats for the Quads and the like which have a higher thermal faliure point.

~60 is pretty reasonable for load though, maybe low 60s max. I get ~40 Idle/~50 Load on 3.45Ghz with 1.360V (CPUZ) and my fans on 5V.

If you are 1:1 with FSB/RAM then you should easily run 4-4-4-12 timings up to 3.2Ghz, or the ram is busted.

At 2.4Ghz you are only at 300Mhz FSB (x8), push that puppy some! You have a lot of headroom left.

where do i put it at 1:1? As i would prefer to have it running at 44412, is 2.1v enough for 4 sticks of it?

its running at about 29c on idle, which isnt bad, doesnt go over 45 at load.

ok even with my timmings at 55515, it wont even get past the bios screen at 325fsb (2.6ghz), im 99% i just need to adjust the memory properly and it should be fine.

can you run your mem at stock speeds? try dropping down to 266, using the divider to push the RAM to 400MHz, then set timings to 4-4-4-12.... if that passes Memtest it shouldnt be your RAM.

I'd play with your CPU and chipset voltages.

i dont have memtest, but it ran fine at stock speeds, dont you need to burn memtest to a disc or something?

i still havnt put my memory to 1:1, where abouts do i set it to that?
