hey, finaly got everything running today

started to oc my e6600

im at 2.8ghz with 1.365V, 315 x 9

whats the max volts i would be looking to go to?

im using a scythe ninja for cooling

and using the Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi

finding it a bit hard, from the bios i can only see the fsb and volts.

is the ratio cmos setting the multiplier? cos i cant find anything else, and its set to 9

any help is welcome

EDIT is it a case of jus uping the fsb and voltage?

When it comes to your bios setting I can’t really help you as I don’t have the board.

However most e6600 will do around 3GHz on stock volts (1.325) so I would knock you volts back to stock.

What I did was jump straight to 3GHz 334*9 and ran Orthos for 12hrs which it passed using stock volts. I then upped the fsb by 5 until my pc wouldn’t boot. At this stage I upped the vcore a notch until it would boot and pass orthos for 1/2hr. Then I ran 12 hr tests at 3.2 and 3.3 could not get any higher out of my 6600 :(.

I would not go any higher than 1.5v as the temps were starting to hit 60 degrees though many people don’t seemed to be fussed as long as its below 65 or even as high as 70 .

I would read this before going any further if i was you

well i have left orthos running at 3.1ghz, i think its at 1.4V, it orthos would stop after a few seconds until i got to 1.4v. temps are reaching 50C but my fan on the cpu is only running at 900rpm.

how would i speed the fan up?

If it's any help, I overclocked my mates E6600 last night on stock volts and it cranked up to 3.2 GHz stable. The RAM was less stable, so that needs investigation later.

some results

got cpu overclocked to 3.15ghz

superpi 1mb in 16 seconds

combined with my 768mb 8800gtx i get 10995 on 3dmark06

Looking at overclocking my 6600, bit of a noob myself at this. Do i just start off raising the fsb until i reach 3ghz, and see how it goes? Currently everything is at stock, only thing i've changed is the ram timings (OCZ Platinum at 4,4,4,15).

hi

I have the e6660 and did my first overclock and hit 3GHZ,

Infact I started with changing the FSB to 1333MHZ - saved bios restarted pc it now runs at 3GHZ

Voltage left as standard

Unlinked if you have the option, although it all depends on the ram you have, for example, if it was pc6400, then linked would be fine untill you upped the fsb to 400 (1600qfsb) as that would then be the 'stock' speed of the ram...

Unlinking the ram and setting the ram to stock speeds should rule out any ram issues when overclocking, this is (imo) the best road to go down

Thanks, i'll give it a try linked and see what i get. If i have any problems then i'll try unlinked and start ruling stuff out.

Right, i upped the fsb to 1334 which gave me 3ghz, but my temp shot up to 60 degrees. I know my cpu has been running hot, so i'm going to whip off the hsf and reapply the as5 and reseat the hsf, see if it makes a difference.

Other thing is, when i upped my fsb to 1334 it put the ram to 1000mhz in linked mode, my ram is pc6400 so this would have been too high speed wouldn't it? I switched to unlinked and it went back 800mhz.
