Overclocking new CPU, how long to leave paste curing?

Received my new Core i7 CPU today and fitting it tonight, how long should i leave the MX-3 curing before i overclock it?

What's the best way to apply this stuff? I always did the straight line with AS5 but would i be better off with a thin layer and using a credit card?
