overclocking new system

I'm going to have a crack at overclocking my new system (assuming i get it up and running ok) but was just curious about one thing...

do you guys go straight in and overclock your new hardware as soon as you get it or do you have some sort of settling in period first to make sure all the hardware is ok?

I install windows before i start to clock, but that's it (and maybe a few drivers ofc )
