My set up below is 2 years old and is standard, so was thinking whether it is worth overclocking the CPU and graphics card. Currently play BF4 on high settings, as its laggy on ultra.

I've read around and think I can overclock the CPU without any problems, but not sure about the graphics card.

So do you think overclocking will make much difference to playing BF4 on ultra?

Or do I need a new graphics card?

2GB MSI R6950 TwinFrozr3 PE/OC
Intel Core i5 2500K
8GB 2x4G CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3
Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler
GByte GA-Z68XP-UD3P MoBo
Coolermaster CM 690 ll Case
750W ANTEC TRUEPOWER NEW PSU

I would defintely look at OC`ing your 2500K and your 6950, then see how you get on.
Although a secondhand 7950/670 would be a big improvement.

i asked the forums for opinions on going up from the 2500k recenty and consensus seemed to be that it should do the job for moment when overclocked. Read one of the guides on the net, you should be able to squeeze some extra performance out quite easily.

Also some of the 6950's would unlock to effectively be a 6970, though I dont remember how to check, a quick google should set you on the right path. Either way a little oc would give you a bit more poke for free, then try bf4 again.

Hopefully that covers the CPU overclocking well enough for you. I'd did quite a few builds with the 2500K and the Tranquillo cooler, got them to a minimum of 4.4Ghz with little fuss. Have a look at MSI Afterburner to OC the 6950 GPU.

All the best with it bud, we look forward to hearing how you get on :)
