OK folks, I upgraded mobo version, (680i, AR to A1). Then added an extra 2gb RAM, to make 4gb total (GEIL PC6400). Since then I can no longer overclock :(

I can't overclock CPU from stock speed, (2.4ghz e6600). Before I could overclock to 3.2ghz easy, even had 3.6ghz running, but now I can't even get 2.5ghz. During stress, system freezes and I get C1 error (680i mobo), which is the memory controller.

RAM timings are slack (5,5,5,18,23) and everything afaik correct in bios.
vdimm 2.2, FSB 1.4, linked and synced.

It seems CPU is fine, perhaps a mobo or RAM issue, any clues?

vdimm says 1.8-2.1 on packet, I'm at 2.2v, how much can I push it?

nf spp = 1.3
nf mcp = 1.5
ht nf spp = 1.3

Are highest settings I've tried.

Is the ram on T2 or T1 ?
Using 4 sticks of Geil PC6400 @ T2 in my first version EVGA 680i with rated timings , voltage and no probs with the E6600 @ 3.5.

I have the same problem, had my E6300 up to 3.3Ghz, slotted in another 2gb kit and had to drop it down to 3Ghz, I cant even run the timings at 4-4-4-12, has to be 5-5-5-12 to get it into windows.

If its the Geil PC6400 Ultra C4, then U can give it 2.3v without issue...

Couple of questions tho... Have you tried the 2nd set u bought on their own & tried settings the same as before (could be the new set is borked)

What operating system are u using??? Cos if it's Win XP 32bit, then that only recognises just over 3gb of ram and will have serious issues with dual channels of 4gb...

Its windows Vista x64 that I am using, thats why I added the other 2gb when I got it. TBH I am not really bothered about losing 300mhz, its probably due to the older P965 chipset board I am using, should be fine when I get penryn and x38 in the new year.
