hey guys.

ok ive been reading a lot and watching some vids on how to overclock my cpu.

my main target is 3GHz as from what i hear this is easy to achieve with the hardware i have (P5K-E mobo, Q6600 cpu and a tuniq tower)

but when i go into the bios, everything looks so different to on the videos and i dont really want to change anything untill i know exactly what im doing because im scared il forget the stock settings.

Its like none of the options are open, everything is grey'd out. can anyone tell me what exactly i need to set to 'enabled' to be able to change things.

also any usefull pointers when overclocking to help me avoide fubar?

im guessing il get hardly any replies if any as i havnt really asked a direct question. the problem is i dont know what to ask:p

any suggestions are welcome..

All I can suggest is exploring your BIOS options until you come across stuff that looks like it's related to overclocking. I've never used an Asus board before so I can't really be more specific than that.

Actually, I think I was told once that Asus boards have a BIOS option to "upgrade the CPU". That's where you can simply select a higher model CPU and it'll automatically set the FSB and voltage settings to make it run at the stock speed of that higher end CPU.

Of course the guy who told me that might have been lying...

3Ghz should be possible on stock voltage, set AI Overclocking to Manual and raise the FSB, read the basic overclocking thread for more info.

Also, it might be a good idea to set your RAM lower, then when you have gone from 2.4 to 3Ghz your CPU and RAM will be running at a nice 1:1 Ratio. :)

Thats if you don't want to overclock your ram that is.
