Overclocking oddness with an X800 and artifacts

Hi all,

I've been trying to overclock my X800 Pro with ATI Tray Tools (or whatever it's called) and even at stock speeds it's saying there were loads of artifacts when I try and use the auto thing.

The thing is it used to be fine. All I've done is reinstalled Windows XP Pro since the last time I tried, also now have dual monitors, i.e. one at 1680x1050 and one at 1280x1024. Oh and a different mobo.

Just wondering if anyone can think why I'd suddenly get artifacts at stock speeds?

Cheers!

Don't use the auto clocker. It's best to try your own clocks and then prove it by gaming for a while.

Have you just run the artifact test on its own? If not try that and see what you get.

Next step would be to check your temps. My x800 pro starts artifacting at around 80C, and thats with extra volts.

Cheers for this. Yep, just running the artifact tester results in 500+ artifacts at stock speeds. I may try reseating it but temps are fine. I've also played HL2 for 6hrs+ (yes I know, but I never did finish it) and it's been fine, just occasionally slowed down due to the settings i had.

If ATI tray tools says 500+ artifacts but you've played HL2 for 6 hours and not noticed any then I wouldn't worry.
