Overclocking Opteron 185

hi ya El jimben mine is week 06 52 can't remember what core it is but i am moving that rig into another case within the next few days so i will take the cooler off and have a look and post back:)
 
some cpu's just run hotter also, dont forget. not all cores are made equal, some are leaky as anything, but tend to clock higher. (more leakage of current, higher temps)
 
I have a opty 185 and mine will easily go to 2.8 accept temps are a tad on the poor side. (think its cos of the core isnt making good contact on the plate that covers the cpu) So Im running it at 2.78 to be on the safe side.
 
It's def. the CPU that is the problem - booted happily at 250x10 etc
Tried , again at 2.8 (216x13) - at low/standard volts failed on Core 0 after 40-50sec; increased to 1.4v - stable BUT temps +5C on load.
Not happy getting such a high increase in temps for such a small increase in performance:(
Better cooling needed before I try again ; may also try removal of IHS but will probably leave this until warranty expires.

I just came back from shopping, core 0# was still going strong after nearly 5 hours but core 1# crapped out after 2 hours 40 mins, I'm gonna drop it down to 2.95GHZ and try again!
 
I have removed my IHS now. Went to reseat the Titan Amanda turned it on and I got one loud beep. one of the cables snapped.

I have not put the Thermaltake Big Typhoon.

Now 228 x 13 = 2964 temps are now 45/50 under prime. Vcore holding after the droop at 1.504. (I hate unstable vcores. Cant companies build better stuff)

My CPU is CCBBE 0615DPMW

So if you want your temps to drop remove the IHS.

Did a bit of research to find that LCB9E 0630BPMW steppings are ,allegedly, poor clockers.

CCBBE 0615DPMW are ,allegedly, good .
