I have been looking at purchasing the Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 (1066 FSB)

Does the 1066 FSB on the CPU effect what RAM I should get?

e.g Is it pointless getting DDR3 1800mhz as the CPU's FSB is only 1066?

Thanks in advance to all helpers :)

1066Mhz FSB / 4 (quad pumped) = 266Mhz.
Now the RAM will standard run at 1:1 so 266Mhz:266Mhz(*2(DDR)=533Mhz)

If you buy PC6400 Ram which runs at 800Mhz(/2=400Mhz, the mobo 266Mhz) then it will just run at 266Mhz because of the 1:1 setting. On most modern motherboards there is a RATIO setting so you can run the Ram at a higher speed than 1:1, so it becomes for example 3:4 or 1:2.

if you set it to 3:4 then it would run at this:
266Mhz:354Mhz(*2 = 708Mhz instead of the 1:1 533Mhz)
I hope it doesn't get to confusing :S
