hey guys just a quicki, im crap at overclocking but whats better

having higher ram speeds to clock ratio or running the ram at stock with a multiplyer making the oc higher?

ie overclocking the ram and cpu or just the cpu?

I think its a combination of both, but mainly timings?

E.g 4-4-4-12 at 800 is better than 5-5-5-18 at 1066.

Imo.

Really? I would defiantly prefer the latter of the two! Unless there is a large difference in timings there is little noticeable performance gain. I would much prefer the higher MHz.

It depends on the system you are running.

If you have a Core 2 Quad and 667MHz RAM then I would probably prioritise RAM overclocking or buy faster RAM, as it will be limiting performance in some situations.

However, on the other end of the scale, an X58/ i7 system has more than enough memory bandwidth even at motherboard default speeds, so running the RAM at spec is fine and focusing on CPU speed is the best way to go.
