Hello,

I'm dumping my LGA1366 system now that the (socket 1366) mobo prices are inflated, I will actually even get some money back from going to a 2600K + P8Z68V/GEN3, as my just Asus P6T is worth as much as I bought the 2600K + P8Z68V for... And the i7 940 is still worth 3 or 4 tenners or so...

I'm new to this socket however, is it as simple as upping the CPU multi like some say so ? 1.4 vcore volt max as a safe ''limit'' from what I can gather. Cpu is cooled with a 120mm dual fan water cooler.

I will be using 3x4gb 2000mhz c9 DDR3 that is rated at 1.65V, should I manually meddle with the volts, or just put the mobo in XMP mode and leave it on auto ?

Should 4.5 ghz be doable ? And if so, what do I have to watch on this socket ? On my old i7 I still oc-ed by upping the base clock ( and having to watch uncore freq and QPI link speeds, and meddling with the ram controller voltage on cpu)

Is it just a matter of the multi and vcore volts and watching temps ?

What's the max ''safe'' 100% load for a while temp ?

I've heard people say some cpu's have trouble driving fast ram, will the CPU be able to use my ram at full speed and volts ? Or should I run the ram at lower volts and speeds than specs ?

Most SB will do 2000mhz on the memory controller ok.

Okay, had a first go, seems to run fine at 4.3 ghz, with volts still on ''auto'', cpu fans stay ''silent'' ( using q-fan in silent mode in bios, I hate noise haha) while load temp is 63 C on the hottest core. Seems like a good start :o.
This IHS is much better than of my last cpu, my last cpu idled at 50 C, this ones idles at 37 C on the cores, which is nice imo :).

EDIT:

Guy on other forums says ''dram voltage can be no higher than 1.5750v on sb''.

My ram wants 1.65 V... So what to do ?

I've got it running at 4.5 ghz now, vcore is 1.30-1.32 at full load), however, performance isn't much better than my old system, mainly due to the ram still at 1066 and losing triple channel.

My ram can run at XMP-2000, 9-11-9-27-50-2T @ 1.65 V.
It's Patriot Viper Xtreme 3x4GB DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000).

What type of settings do you guys recommend on SB for me for the ram, seeing as I shouldn't run 1.65V ??

Also, is there any point in keeping cpu speed high, or is using the turbo function fine ?
Does it have any point to up the base clock/bus speed?

Running 1.65V for RAM is fine.

I just let the turbo function deal with the CPU multi and the LLC function manage the CPU Vcore.

Leave the bus speed is fine

Thanks, I let XMP handle the dram speed and volts, now i'm getting nearly double the memory read bandwith :). 1866 mhz 9-11-9-27 I'm running now.

Are you sure 1.65V won't harm the CPU, I can vaguely remember someone warning me my cpu can get damaged from running ram at these volts ?

I'm going to have a play sometime, to see if I can get the bugger higher, as the temps are well within the safe range still so I can chuck more volts through it easily! But for now, I'm glad I got it up and running more or less, more cpu power for cpu hungry games :).

Hmmm, any idea why this happens:

Is it a setting in bios or so, or is it because I occupy the 2nd PCIEx16 slot with an extra usb & sata controller card ?

Doh! It's because of the pci-e card, I can put it in the bottom slot too, but that one's just 1x, I need 4x speeds for decent usb 3 throughput... Meh.

Why can't this board support 16x on 1 slot, and 4x on the 2nd slot :p ?

Thanks for the help though Dave!
