Hey Guys,

I've been messing about with overclocking for a bit and ive managed to get my Q6600 at 3ghz running stable.

Also overclocked my graphics card which is also running well.

My main problem at the moment is the RAM timings, the RAM is supposed to run at 4-4-4-12 but i cant get it to run at this. Maybe i need to change the FSB:DRAM ratio? (Clueless about this bit)

The NB volts i set to 1.4 (Only way to get my CPU stable)
I also tried to run the ram at 2.0v but to no avail.

Have you tried changing the memory timmings manualy in the BIOS, they also need 2.1v (should be a sticker on the side of the modules)

Rob

well yoru fsb ram ratio is fine its at 5/6 soo wich means with your current overclock you ram is running at 800mhz wich is what its ment to do. it could be a question of ram voltage. i know you have geil ram but wich version do you have ?

the black dragon 2gb kit is 800mhz 4-4-4-12 at 1.9v to 2.0v

how ever

the ulta low latency kit is 800mhz 4-4-4-12 at 1.9v to 2.3v

check your packaging on ya ram shoudl say on there. if its the ultra low latencey one give the ram some more juice .

@ Rob : Yes thats the only way i know how to change them :P

@ Fish : The ram i have is the ultra low latency stuff, ill have a look on the box in a bit and see what its recommends (Dont want to over volt it) :)

Cheers

lo guys,

Ive changed the Volts to 2.2v which is within the recommended values and dropped the latencys to what they should be.

Yet im confused, when i run CPUZ it tells me that the voltage is 1.8.

Screenies below:

(Yet to stress test so ill give that a blast in a minute)

Cheers

that is strange, your voltage should be fine, in cpu z the voltage readings in that screen shot are not your actual voltages they are just a guide to how to set your timings/frequencies, ive had mine at 2v and its still shown the 1.8 in cpu z yet other external programs show my voltage as what it should be

Ah ok, fair enough then.

Still cant get the latency's low and stable, think changing the FSB:DRAM ratio would do anything? (Dont even know how to do this) and would this decrease synthetic benchmarks scores?

Cheers

is your ram still at 800 MHz? when you up the frequency you normally need to put the timings down a bit or vice versa to keep stability.

i dont get why your having problems then my ram was running at 5-5-5-15 when it was supposed to be 4-4-4-12, so i went into bios and changed them manually, then i made sure the voltage was what it should have been and it was fine. the only other thing i can think of is that the voltage you put in the bios isnt fully getting to your ram like vdroop with a cpu. have you tried reseating the ram to make sure the connection is ok?

The ram seems to be fitted perfectly, running in dual channel also so the slots are correct.

Just been tinkering and now when i log onto windows i get registry errors and various other crap. Most likely not related to tinkering but should keep me busy.

Still cant get the ram at those latencys though :@

Cheers

When i clocked my cpu i made sure the latecy was right before i clocked my cpu, you might want to try clearing your cmos completely and then set the ram timings fist and make sure they are working alright and then try to clock your cpu.

Yeah ill try dropping the CPU overclock and seeing if the latencys work then.

As far as the ratio goes, as i said im clueless about this

I tried running memtest and no errors were found.

You say try dropping the multiplier and then what upping the FSB so i get the clock speed back?

Elaborate please :D

Cheers
