Hiyas guys,

I'm finally getting around to clocking up my 2500k cpu, I'm taking it very slow and fully testing on full load stress test's "prime" but so far I'm up to 4.0ghz from stock, but with temps 73C 64C 74C thats under the "package tab" have I hit peak or is it safe to go higher???

Sorry for the question but i'm new at this...

CPU Vcore is set to 1.28v

If those are the temperatures showing I'd be worried because you've lost a core somewhere.

Also the difference between the core temperatures is quite high. It's normally a few degrees but not 10.

Check the temps with CoreTemp or Real Temp.

At 70 odd degrees you're pushing as high as you want to be for 24/7 use.

What cooler are you using?

Ahh Real Temp makes more sense, it's now clocked to 4.4, with temps showing 73c 76c 76c 76c for all four cores, I guess this is a bit high so I'll downgrade the clocks,

This is purly going to be used for gaming, so what sort of temps should I be aiming for under full load?

I have the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

That's a modestly priced cooler so better than the Intel stock cooler but obviously not as good as most of the more expensive ones.

Those sort of temperatures are about as high as you want to go but if you've only been benching the processor a short time they'll probably creep up a bit.

The good news is that for gaming you're unlikely to stress the processor as much as you're doing now so it won't get as hot.

Thats a good thing then, I've been about as brave as I dare, and from stock to 4.4 I think is quite good, I'll run prime for a good few hours and see if it goes up much more,

Maybe now I can play Witcher 2 a little better.

I have got one more question tho and it's confused me, in the Bios it#s telling me it's now 4.4 but in the windows experiance it's saying it's only 3.3, what one do I believe??

For some people Windows seems to report the overclocked speed and others just the stock speed. Don't ask me why.

Download CPU-Z and the CPU tab should show 4.4GHz while you're stressing the CPU.

If it does all is well.

The CPU should down clock to 1.6GHz when idle to save power.

I've just got CPU-Z it says the Specification is 3.3 but the core speed is 4.3, so I guess it's working, it must just be my windows index being funny.
