Overclocking the Q6600 for the first time

Yeh each cpu is different, some need to add vcore really early some right at the end. Thats why its never easy to fully give direct info.

Yeh you are fine to use your computer whilst prime is running, maybe not gaming or any intensive tasks, but web browsing and the like is fine.

Well it seems I am off on my way to a good overclock.

Expect a lot of random questions about vcores and voltages to memory, timings etc in the very near future (about 1am :P) but for now, thank you very much for your help mate!

No probs thats why we are here for, im more used to clocking duals, others are for more experienced with quads, and as you are going about things the right way, in reading up and only asking when you are not sure. That is when people are more willing to help.

Even if you can't get 3.2, 3.3, 3.4 or above its free performance either way, and its allways fun to tinker, well i think so anyways lol.

You deffinatly have the mobo for it, and cooling, its just a matter if the cpu is a good or bad one, but i deff think 3.4 is achievable.

You will deffinatly have to wait for the more experienced quad clockers to help you with the more advanced voltage stuff for got what there called something like gtf or something lol. But thats later down the line when really trying to tweak it.

Heh, thanks dude!

Yea I know what you mean about people asking before looking. I did look around a lot of Q6600 OCing treads before I posted this but they seem to be variant.

Just as an update, been running Prime95 for 20mins now at 3.11Ghz with core0 at 63c and CPU at 52'c. I dont think thats too bad!

Yeh thats not bad at all, which prime test you running btw small, large or blend?

small and large kick out more heat, large kicking out the most, but blend stress's everything including chipset and memory.

But as you are testing cpu stabilty probably best to use small fft, as that will find errors faster, if there is any.

I generally use small fft when testing vcore, then i use blend to check the rest, most stuff u do on ur comp wont even reach blend test temps.

Well blend will still find errors, as its testing everything, so its not a bad thing, just small will find any problems with the vcore a lot quicker.

Either way not even gaming will produce any of the prime test temps, so if you are well under safe temps using prime your laughing.

Testing now at 3.2Ghz, well...3.198Ghz to be exact :P

Doing a small fft now to test, going to run for about 25-30mins for inital testing.

Still no change to vcore or anything. RAM is at 852Mhz and seems ok at the moment. If this hangs in there on this 30min test, ill test 3.2Ghz on an all night blend until I get up, so about.....8-9hours worth really.

If no errors after then I will see what I can do over the weekend, but I really want to test 3.2Ghz out as much as I can too see if its stable enough.

I will just say though that i would run prime for a few hours longer, when oc'ing mine i ran p95 a couple of times for 2 hours with no probs, ran it again when i thought all was stable when i went to bed, came down 4 hours later and i had a core failure under stress test, i know all cpu's clock differently and you may not have any problems, but it's better to be safe in the knowledge your oc is stable than frustrated

Well thats close enough for me to call it 3.2 lol

You are deffinatly testing it the right way, slowly but surely, i'll make sure to check back tomorrow to see how it went, good luck with the all night test.

Almost 2hrs into prime95 and all seems well. Temps are Core0 @ 63c, max has been 65c. CPU @ 53c as I type but has been up and down between 50-54c.

I think I am liking this! :D

Haha its addictive is'nt it.

Just wait until you get to the part where you are happy with the overclock, and then you start tweaking and testing, to try and get it stable at the possible lowest volts for everything, thats the killer, and takes along time lmao.

Heh! Well I have just ran prime95 for just over 12hours @ 3.2Ghz and no faults or anything. I am going to hold it at 3.2Ghz until the weekend now.

Nice, save that profile in your bios if you can, if not write down all the settings, so you can atleast go back to something you know that fully worked, if futher testing gets no where.

Good luck with further testing at the weekend.

Hello!

Hey everybody, sorry about all this but I have no idea how to start a new forum to ask a question so I'm just going to post it here :D if anybody can move it or notify me of moving it that'd be great!

At Christmas I got an Acer Aspire 5410 "Timeline". It's a great laptop and runs Windows 7, it's slim, it's got good RAM, good screen. But there's one pretty big downside to it. The processor is only 1.2GHz :(

I'm not too sure if this is because of the RAM amount (3GB) or some sort of balancing out. But it sure does slow the laptop down an awful lot whenever I try to run some programs at once.

The laptop itself has got some thing built into it called a Lamiar Cooling Walljet or something like that, but in anyway it does cool it down an awful lot and it does do the job.

For a while I've been interested in overclocking the processor. I've researched it everywhere but I don't see where I can actually do it myself on the laptop. It seems impossible (I'm a beginner - if you haven't already realised lol!) But I'm only interested in overclocking it to about 2GHz - 2.6GHz, just so it runs a wee bit smoother. I can't seem to watch HD movies and I'm pretty convinced that this is the problem.

Anyway if somebody could get back to me with instructions or even better a tutorial on how to do it, it would mean the world. If it helps, here's my laptops details:

O.S - Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor - Intel Celeron CPU @ 1.20GHz
Installed RAM - 3.00GB
System - 32-Bit operating system.

Thanks in advance!

LOL yeah I.ve been there too many times. All-nighters doing various tests tweaking endlessly...some may call it obsessive...I call it <3 for my Q6600

I just overclocked my q6600 to 3.2ghz (400x 8) with a vcore of 1.393v. It passed the intel burn in test with a max temp of 66 degrees. The VID is 1.325v. I assume this is ok?
