Every time I try to overclock this card it freezes? At default settings it's fine.

Anyone have good settings for the card? I've also had 2 times where the drivers have failed and the PC screen would mess up saying drivers had failed? This shouldn't be happening, the is a new gaming PC?

After reading on this card this will be my first and last AMD graphics card.

Any help on overclocking my XFX Core 7850 would be appreciated:)

anything above the default settings. I did 1050Mhz and it would last long before freezing. I have 6 fans on my case.

Thats an overclock of more than 20%, start small your not going to get big overclocks by jumping right into it.

Its nothing to do with fans / cooling, you may need a small bump on the core volts to run it 1050Mhz or more, first Download Sapphire TRIXX.

https://www.sapphireselectclub.com/ssc/TriXX/TriXX.aspx

Download Heaven and install http://unigine.com/products/heaven/

Then set Power Line to +20 in CCC.

Install TRIXX. set Power Line in TRIXX to +20.

Set core to 950Mhz and run Heaven for one full cycle, Keep setting 20Mhz higher Core clock until the driver crashes, when that happens reboot the computer as the driver will be unstable at that point.

Once rebooted set the clocks back to where it crashed and then set 150 more mv on the VDDC and test again. (setting higher VDDC may do nothing as some XFX cards are locked)

Let me know how that goes.

*Disclaimer* setting higher VDDC can damage the card.

i have found with the latest batch of amd drivers 12.7 and above my previous overclocks that have been stable in every game i play have now become completly unstable no matter what volts i throw at the card. had to revert to stock clocks and its fine.

I'm running 12.8, Overclocking is no different to 12.3, 12.5, 12.6, 12.7.

But your not the first person i have seen say that, so i don't know whats going on with it.

It seems pretty stable here.

GPU Clock at 1030 and power line all the way up +20. The temps are 75C. when idle the temps are 49-50C is that Normal? I'm sure I could've gone higher, but don't want to push the card too much. I'm pretty happy at where it's at.

Those temps are within tolerances but they do look a bit high to me.

Did you adjust the VDDC, if so what is it set at?

What sort of setup do you have, your case, case cooling, CPU cooling? would it be possible to upload a picture of the inside of your rig and post it here? i want to see with my own eye's how you have your rig setup.

This is the sort of thing i'm looking for...

Hello humbug. I didn't touch the VDDC as it states it could harm you card, so I didn't?

Case I have is a Vantage, Mobo is Asus p8z77-m, Intel(R) Core i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz.

CPU cooling is stock

I put that disclaimer up as a warning and to cover my own backside, it can damage the card, but it probably wont, i sometimes run mine at 1.27v, up from 1.22v, but usualy at about 1.245v with that it plays BF3 and the like @ 1200mhz / 1500Mhz but i also have some DX9 / DX10 games and i need to lower the core to 1180Mhz unless i run 1.27v for them.

That case looks a little tight and cultured, do you have a front intake fan? if not get one (there only a few Quid) and move all of those cables out of the way if you can, if you look at my case again you can see i have everything out of the way of the intake fan, that helps with temps.

Right now i wouldn't increase the VDDC, your temps (while not to high) are about as much as i would not really be happy with.

To give you an example my idle temps are around 30c and full load under 60c, those are very good temps but load temps of around 65c would be my aim.

I have two intake fans. One 12" on the front and two 8" on the side.

Is the CPU Intel stock cooler good enough? I ask a few friends and they said the Intel cooler is fine. Or maybe I should up the GPU card fans a little? It's at 20% right now, Default setting fans speed.

The Intel cooler is fine, but if you want overclocking i would suggest you get an aftermarket cooler for it, be careful which one though, you have a small case by the looks of it and some coolers are to tall to fit inside smaller cases.

Yes you can set your own GPU fan profile in TRIXX, do that :)

Now that you have a nice CPU, and nice GPU and as your cables are nylon braided i'm assuming your PSU is decent?

If your thinking of making any more Desktop investments i would suggest getting a bigger case next (with cable routing) they are worth it.

This is the case I have

I've spent well over £700 for the PC and your right the case is small, but it fits perfect on my desk. I wonder what aftermarket cooler would work on my case?

Thanks for helping out and your knowledge on my PC:)
