Overheating-Is a new case in question?

PSU is my bet, I wouldn't risk the GTX260 with a PSU like that. You could buy a Tagan Power Forge to protect it though.
And lawl, just went on the website and saw an advert for one of their PCs with "Now Even Hotter..." as the main title :D

Hehe. I think I saw an ad like that a while back. My reaction was as you would expect :D

I imagine I might get myself a new power supply then, and probably a case as well. I'll reroute the wires but I've had signs of overheating today with the side of the case off. If it's as you've suggested I imagine its probably a naff PSU.

Anyone got any opinions on this?

I'd also appreciate some suggestions for cases. Chances are I'll be building a whole new computer at some point.

Later on down the line I might get another 260 for SLI, so I imagine I'd be better off having a PSU capable of SLI as well as general cooling and power.

I quite like the look of both to be honest. My budget's around £80. A little margin of error is alright.

I throught that corsiar (HX650watt)would take GTX260 SLI easy? if not than for SLI (not modular) playing safe corsair HX750. as for case hmmm not sure maybe lain li as metioned above :P

If you have "signs of overheating" at 40c, with the side off, without a crash...they're not caused by overheating.

Get a new PSU in there, borrow one first in case it isn't the cause - but it seems likely to me.

Another startling revelation.....

I've started hearing a grinding hum emitting from the computer. It's not the GPU, Heatsink, or Chasis fans. That just leaves the PSU.

It seems to start humming at random, but today its been persistant.

Is it safe to say it's had it?

HDD?

It does sound like the PSU is kicking up a fuss though - dirty power can kill components.

Try and get hold of a spare PSU (or just ask a local hardware store if they'll spare one for ten minutes for you?) and see if that helps. If it does, swap her out!

You could do with improving the cooling in there anyway though ;-) get the cable ties out!

Hi,
can someone explain to me, as I genuinely don't know, but why/ how could a possible overheating problem be related to a faulty PSU?

Do you mean that it isn't properly powering the fans, leading to poor airflow, or is it supplying dodgy power to the CPU causing it to overheat?

I don't quite follow.

My opinion - get the cables sorted (its actually quite fun :D ), get a new heatsink and fan (or just give the current one a damn good hoover out, get some more fans in there and see if that helps. Try the cabling and hoovering first as those are near enough free :)

Ucof - it's not related to overheating.

The OP thought heat was the problem, probably because a lot of GPU problems can be traced back to heat or just bad advice elsewhere... I think the general consensus here has been that the temps were pretty reasonable and that although the case could do with a tidy up to improve airflow, it was more likely that the PSU was the cause: not supplying sufficient power to the GPU and causing it to artefact.

Ah... so glitching graphics was the effect, with a dodgy PSU being the cause :)

I getcha now. thanks :)

(I did try re-reading the thread by the way, but still couldnt work it out! :D )
