My cpu is currently idle at 50 and during COD4 sessions reaches 80 and shutsdown, its becoming a joke. I've replaced the stock cooler with an arctic64 which is supposed to be fantastic at first it idled at 39 and seemed to be great now its back up to 50!

Cleaned the case of dust & replaced the stock cooler anything else i can try?

AMD 3500+
Asus MB

is there anyway of turning off the auto-shutdown too?

Don't turn off the autoshutdown or you risk frying your chip! not good!

Give us full rig spec's including case/fans details.

Are you using tim or a pad. How confident with it's application. Have you got the CPU cooling fan facing the right way.
If all else fails then fit a fan in the front of your case drawing air in & have another at the back as an exhaust. Position the fans to get the best airflow Through your case & over the CPU block.

I have a really small case, antec lanboy so the airflow isn't great but i leave both side panels off.

Just got the case fans that come with it although i have another 120mm fan i bought that i could replace one of them with.

Like i said,
Are you using the pad that came with the cooler or Tim/Thermal paste. If paste which type & how confident are you at mounting the cooler. Also have you got the fan on the cooler facing the right way.
How hot is your room at the mo as well. No good trying to get a system running cool if you have all the doors/windows shut & the central heating banged up.

Yeah i have the cooler facing right next to the back fan blowing air out, i did originally put it on the wrong way :D its just strange how my computer goes from idling 39 too 49 over a week.

I'm using the pre-applied stuff that came with it (only fitted it last week).
