Not sure if I should put this in here or in "overclocking and cooling"
One of the guys I work with asked me yesterday why his laptop would be randomly switching itself off. First you think, software related.. Then he told me that the laptop got really hot to the touch. Hmm.. i know laptops can get warm but he said it was getting to the stage it was uncomfortable to sit on your lap for any length of time.
I'll say now that while I own a laptop, i've never been inside one, and have very little experience with them.
I've also got no idea what spec etc his laptop is, but i'll be getting it home with me tomorrow to have a look at.
So i asked him to take out the battery and run it off the mains just incase it was the battery that was making everything hot. Also told him to download speedfan and make a list of the temperatures.
He came into work today and forgot the list, typical... but.. he remembered what temp 1 was at... and if i'm right that's always the CPU... well it was sitting at 75c when windows was idle. Now I reckon that's waaay to hot for a laptop cpu.. for any cpu really.
Anyway... i will have it home with me tomorrow night to have a look at. Can let you guys know exact spec etc then.
In the mean time, any idea what might be making things get so hot?
I was thinking, open it up, visual inspection for dust etc... other than that i've really no idea what to do.
any suggestions would be appreciated.
Update coming about this time tomorrow.
