Just thought I'd pick the brains of you good people out there.

What are the symptoms of an overheating northbridge?

I've been having some BSOD's for a while now and I'm having trouble working out what it is. My latest theory is that my northbridge may be the cause.
A while back I replaced the whiney stock cooler on my ABit 939 board with a Thermalright HR-05. My concern is that as its a big heavy thing it might not be sitting right on my vertically mounted motherboard and that part of it may not be making proper contact.
When I've got the time to take my machine completely apart and get a closer look at this I will, but until then I'd like to hear what happens when northbridges get toasty.

Cheers,
PK!

if you lie you're system down so the cooler is horizontal do u still get the problem, mavity should hold it in place instead of trying to rip it out of you're mobo.

best check is to put u're hand close to the northbridge cooler after the system as been busy for a while and see how much heat you can feel coming off it.

Yeah I had thought of that and I'm gonna try it tonight. Of course it could be something completely un-related thats causing my problems, so I just wanted to know what happened when they did overheat.

Had an issue similar but i turned it diagonally and it was fine, always thought some clamp down/screw method would've been better.
