I can now confirm that yes, this is a completely new release based on Robert Kirkman's comic book series, The Walking Dead.

The game is being published by Starbreeze Studios (which were the publishers of PAYDAY 2) and being developed by OVERKILL Software (the developers of the PAYDAY series) who will be in charge of development and have full creative control.
"OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead will be powered by Starbreeze’s Diesel engine updated for the next generation. The title is set to release in 2016."
"OVERKILL will deliver a completely new co-op experience to The Walking Dead universe, exploring new characters and storylines."

See the Announcement Page, found in the 'Important Links' section, for further details.

Would love to see your opinions on this new release and the expectations that you may have of this game. Have you watched the televised series of The Walking Dead? Played the Telltale Games' version of The Walking Dead? Fan of the comic?

I've edited the main post to include the official Twitter account.

What are your thoughts on the development of this game? Are you hyped? We will most definitely see something at E3 related to the game and I'll update this thread accordingly.

I can probably see it becoming a microtransaction driven game to be honest which isn't the best thing however I am looking forward to seeing some more gameplay. The VR trailer/ playable demo that they've been showcasing around the US and stuff looks kind of poor but I've only seen the one video so I can't really judge it in it's current state.
