I am following the below tutorial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=668ATnnBOZU

I have the exact same CPU/Mobo as him so its easy to follow however at 14:27 he gets to a setting in the Bios called CPU Load-Line calibration... he has 5 settings to choose from which are level 1,2,3,4 and 5...He says to use Level 5. However on mine i only have 4 settings which are called Auto, 100%, 50% and 0%. Im therefore a bit stuck on what the equivalent to "level 5" is, i don't want to choose the wrong one and break something (yes I'm that much of a noob).

Does anyone know if Level 5 is Auto, 100%, 50% or 0% ?

edit: apologies just seen there is an overclocking forum

ugh, downloaded the update/software installer for the latest BIOS update and its been installing it for about 15 minutes now and hasn't got past "verifying main bios" in about 10 minutes.

ffs, nothing but one problem after another with pcs. motherboards probably bricked now.

Did you follow the guide on the Asrock site on how to flash your bios. Also which method did you use, Instant Flash, DOS or Windows?

It's ok it sorted itself out and continued a minute after my previous post.

Now back to the first problem, anyone know the percentage equivalent of level 5 or what i should have it set to

I think 0% is level 5. But I would try 50%, then when you stress test, check the voltage in CPUZ is the same as in the Bios. If it`s higher, then try 25% and see if that lowers the voltage in CPUZ.

a lot of things, all of which go over my head.

i literally know nothing about overclocking but have been told by a few people that this blokes guide is fairly full proof for getting a stable overclock at 4.2ghz.

Im just copying the settings and was then gonna test them with prime 95 and core temp but i don't know what to put in for this CPU Load-Line calibration as the settings are now in percentages rather than levels.

god i feel like such a noob today, failing miserably all round with my new build.

ah thanks, i thought that might be the case. I just tried 100% and prime 95 crashed the computer as soon as i started. Trying with 50% now and will check the voltage is cpuz.

cheers

with 50% it says core voltage is around 1.01-1.02 whilst prime 95 is running.

in the bios i had it set to -0.65 volts.

should i be checking when prime 95 is or isn't running to see if they are the same or does that make no difference. this is probably a very dumb question.

You need to have CPUZ and core temp(so you can monitor your Cpu temps) open, then start P95 a minute later. Take a screen shot(use the snipping tool in windows) before you start P95 and another when it`s been running for about 10-15mins, assuming it does`nt crash.
Then post up the results.

ok. will do. i tried the default factory over clock 4.4ghz setting and have been running prime 95 for about 25 minutes now. Volts are around 1.15 in CPUZ and Temps are as follows

core 1: 82
core 2: 86
core 3 : 80
core 3 : 79

I did a quick google and am getting conflicting reports on whats an acceptable temps, some have said they don't like to go above 80 whereas i've seen others who say 90 is fine.

so much conflicting info ! anyone know for sure whats ok ?
