Why would you not want to use real world prices, If you bought a 360 now would you pay £289 or £227 if you could? Comon, at least be a little reasonable...

Because then i argue i can buy a PS3 from america for about 300 quid, then you argue that you can buy a 360 in america for xxx then i argue but if i get this coupon from the burger king on route 56 in the back of beyond i can get a PS3 for £100 with free internet access. And then you come back with................. RRP it is. getting most people on this forum to acknowledge the PS3's rrp would actually be a start.

RRP is the real world. Walk into a games store today you will probably pay 280 quid. Hunt around the net for hours you will find everything cheaper

Snip..
This thread is gonna turn to turd so i think i shall leave.

There were a total of 300 HD DVD titles in 2006, and many more have been promised for 2007. Another feature that will greatly spur the commercial effect of HD DVD is hybrid support. Hybrid discs will have support for DVD on one side and support for HD DVD on the other.

The point is with the 360 you're not paying now for something you may not use or may not end up the default format. If you are one of the small percentage of people that want a PS3 for a console and Bluray player for movies then it's a reasoable way of doing it. It still makes PS3 hugely overpriced for the vast majority of gamers which is the primary PS3 market.

You seem very emotional and protective over the PS3. I just think it's far from lived up to the hype and there are viable other options. /shrug

The xbox 360 is too noisey, hot, unrealiable, add on happy, rushed and 14 months after its release there is already the talk of a major feature adding revision, which just shows it was rushed out the door.

Lol.

The way you talk those of us that have been enjoying the best gaming time of our lives this last 14 months have been delusional.

I don't care that wifi, hd-dvd costs more as I don't want it (and at least I got a TV lead)
I don't care that it's noisier than my XBox / PS1 was, it really hasn't effected me
I don't care they're probably revising it this year, it's not like mine will suddenly stop playing games
I don't care that you keep telling me it's going to break down any second now (looks across and err it's still going)

It's fun, has fun games I've had fun playing this last fun 14 months. I've new friends and managed to rekindle old friendships. I've loved playing coop games with my wife has she has fallen for Oblivion. I'm excited about the games coming out this year and look forward to hearing about all the unanounced titles.

Please, there's room for all three consoles and PS3 looks great. But don't go trying to tell me this last 14 months I should have been happy looking at magazine pictures of the PS3 instead of having some of the best gaming of my life.

"Rushed"! I was playing Kameo, Condemned and PGR3 2 Christmases ago! Rushed indeed!

The £249 price needs about a 10sec search on the net from a UK mainstream retail store (albeit a online price). You obviously see money as no object and so ignore the fact you can reduce the 360 price by £50 with 30sec of thinking and searching on t'internet, I guess that's why you'll happily spend £550 (over double the 360 Prem, granted without games though) for a console and 3 games on launch. /shrug that's fine as well if that lights your fire, like I say, I just think there are other options

It's a reasonable assumption to suggest that people will look around on several sites before making a purchase of something like a games console.

Importing is probably something which only a small percentage of people do.

Looking past everything behind the console, the PS3 is very nice. It's going to have continuations of the best series that we all grew up with, what's there to hate about it? Granted, it's a tad expensive, but there are many people who think it's totally worth the price.

It is reasonable to assume people will look on maybe 4 of the BIG gaming websites before making such a purchase.

'Little Johnny's mum and dad' (they always get dragged out for PS3 things) are not going to look through all these voucher using sites.
and looking at the big 3/4 site then they all show 270-290

You're missing the point, the BluRay thing makes no difference for a huge majority of people, I could buy a HD-DVD drive for the 360, I dare say if BluRay won the format competition there would be a BluRay or HD-DVD/BluRay hybrid add on drive for 360 in the same way as the HD-DVD drive.

Personaly by the time I worry about it it'll be one standard or the other, or, i'll just go for one of the hybrid drives.

We're talking about a games console that is hugely expensive and forces you to take Sonys proprietary HD drive format at substantial cost to you even if you're never going to use it. And you said MS bend their customers over and take their money?!?!?

Missed out on possibly the biggest PC/technology retailer in the UK did you? Wonder why that was... :) £249 is without the voucher...

Lets not split hairs eh...

*Edit* Just thought about that - Little Johnnys mum and dad? Good grief..

Johnny "Mum, I want a playstation"

Mum "Ok Son, lets look"

Johnny "It's in here mum"

Mum "£550?!?!?!?! *cough* I don't think so, here son, have a nice Nintendo Wii instead"

:D

Forget the vouchers, if you can't find it for 250 then you're not looking hard enough.

You see, that would be why i say stick to the RRP becuase if you don't stick to the RRP you find wierd ways to remove 30 quid from the xbox 360 yet add 125 quid onto the price of the PS3

And i am the fanboy

Mods, might aswell close, thread was decent to a point.

But can you actually buy the PS3 for 425 quid or are retailers forcing people into bundle deals?

No, the RRP is 425 pounds, but if you can't actually buy it anywhere for 425 pounds then it doesn't cost 425 pounds.

So can you buy it anywhere for 425 pounds?
