Ok so i got my copy early, ive installed the game and im running everything on max. I've discovered the game is locked to 30fps for some strange reason. I went to my documents folder to try to edit the settings.dat file and i find its encrypted! Why do games companys do this ?? Does anyone know of a way to edit an encrypted settings file?

Personally I feel certain games don't require more than 30 fps. For things like RTS's you cimply won't notice anything over that, and it leaves your CPU free to do other stuff, rather than trying to push out a gazillion FPS.

Why are you so worried about getting more than 30FPS? If the game is running well, would you really care if you got 100 over 30?

Edit: jus re-read and now wondering if you were complaining about them encrypting files or capping games FPS :)

I can understand easily why they would encrypt them - so people don't mess with them and stuff things up...

beacuse some ppl FPS is LIFE !!! like spice is life from dune.

just kidding, some ppl like huge fps otherwise they feel uncomfortable, not me though as long as its 30 fps im fine with it

im complaining about both. 30 fps is no problem on SD tv but when you are on a monitor it makes a hell of a difference, fps dips to 20ish if its locked to 30 and when locked to 60 it dips to 30ish minimum. I can easily tell the difference between playing at 30 over 60.
Azrael i suggest you read up on the human eye, sure you are fine with 30 but im not. I like my games fluid and smooth.
You can understand why they would encrypt them? Please tell me why they would encrypt a configuration file... because i can see no logical reason for it, at all.

It's quite simple really, if your game can not maintain the 30 fps, then lower your settings.

At the same settings, if there is a cap at 60 or 30, your game will always drop to the same lowest fps. If the game is capped at 30 and it drops to 20 at times, upping it to 60 is not going to magically prevent it from still dropping to 20...

And out of curiosity, how is 30 fps on your tv any different from 30 fps on your monitor. The only time it will make a difference is with fast movement. I have not tried this game or seen it in action, but it does not seem like you would need to wizz around quickly like you do in somthing like f.e.a.r.

It's like CM: Dirt - Doesn't ned any more than 30fps.

on SD the game is in a lower resolution and there is automatic blurring as the screen can not create individual pixels, instead it stretches them.
ffallic please dont say its quite simple when it isnt. "if your game cannot maintain 30fps" unlock the fps and i can assure you it wont drop below 30fps. I'd also like to point out your posts come off as patronising..

You really sure you should be posting about a game that is not out yet, with a forum nickname like that to boot?
Wouldnt be doing it if it was "copied" :p I just had it delivered early for some reason.

Sorry, I don't mean to come across as patronising.

It's just that I fail to see how raising the cap from 30 to 60 will affect your lowest fps. And this is why I phrased my first comment in my last post the way I did - if it does not maintain 30 fps, then lower some settings.

I dunno, maybe I am just suggesting you treat it the way I would. If my machine could not maintain the 30fps cap or I noticed lag/slow downs, I would lower settings.

I used to be a hard core Fps player, frame rate meant a lot and could make a difference. Maybe im more sensitive to this as a result. Im the sort of person who likes to take stuff apart and see how it works. Personally i see no logical reason to encrypt a config file. If the person didnt know what they were doing i doubt they would find the file in the first place.
In regards to the difference between 30-60fps locks a number of factors can affect your minimium fps ranging from hard drive loading to background programs taking up cpu time.
This game doesnt look gpu or cpu intensive at all, ive seen far better games running at higher framerates.
