Overly hot 9700k

update: its been 3hrs at this point and the rad is still exactly the same temp as when I started, peak temp of 90c package, so I still can't see a good transfer of heat from the die to the rad. I'm going to re mount it after dinner or tomorrow with a lot more paste (going to have to use my M4 as i'm almost completely out of my kryonaught).

Brand spanking new. But within the past hour while the system was on I unmounted the radiator and moved it around, and at some point the pump was making a kind of crunchy sound then eventually went silent (presume air bubbles) but the temps never changed. So considering its not getting severely bad temps and the pump sometimes makes noise, i don't think its dead, but as i say no heat in rad and it has been given good reviews so i dunno. What should I try beyond another remount of the block?
To me it's simple. You can feel heat in waterblock but not in radiator or hose flowing coolant to radiator your CLC is not circulating coolant. I doesn't matter what the actual cause is, it's not working properly and as it's new I would be returning it for replacement or different cooler. Personally I would be getting a good air cooler but it's your choice.

This.

I have that cooler with a 9900k and it's great (even better than my alphacool lt360) so I think you got a potential number of issues:
- Your IHS is not flat thus making bad contact
- I run Kyronaut as my paste so not sure what you're using
- Cross tighten the mounting bolts for equal pressure

Your idle temps should not be that high.

In hwinfo, when running p95 small 26.6 how many amps are you pulling?

Well my 9700K @5.2 is at 27c @1.360V And It never goes higher than 70c in 4K gaming like RDR2

you have a golden CPU is pre binned,, @ 4k the CPU will not be under full stress as the GPU willl be the limiting factor as his CPU also stays under 70c when gaming

unless his CPU is dropping to base speeds when stress testing i dont see how he's only getting 80c on prime after 2hr

at what temp dose the 9700k start the throttle

Not binned and not delided.
I have an old Titan X pascal :)

I still think the pump in his AIO is not doing the job.

I thought you said it was pre binned, it was a different guy.
The ihs is soldered on the 9700k, and the old titan will hold back the 9700k @ 4k

Granted the rad should be warm but his temps are ok. Its confusing.

Not sure how to send a photo on the phone but I put a fair amount of paste on my last application and after removing the block it barely spread at all, so definitely not enough mounting pressure... last time I tightened then beyond fingertight so not sure how to apply more pressure tbh, and I am definitely using the right standoffs. This time I tightened them a little more with pliers, maybe there was a slight gap between the motherboard bracket or something. Will update if I see different temps

I had to do no such thing. Something isn't right. You absolutely sure you're using the right screws? I recall there being a thicker and thinner offsets with one being slightly taller than the other. If you're having to crank down that much, I don't think that's right.

Well holy hell. I'm using the basic arctic m4 stuff, used a ton more than last time, not sure if anythings actually different with the standoffs but omfg the temps are better. Same exact settings in bios, fan curve to 100% as before and my idle is 25-30c vs 30-40, and the same test giving me 88-90c is at its hottest of 72c but staying as low as 64c!

I'll leave it running for a bit and see if my rad gets hot but either way this is a huge improvement

Beyond happy with the temps so ill leave it now but rad still doesnt get anywhere beyond warm. I've set the pump to 50% and all chassis fans to the lowest RPM and the temps are exactly the same, so I can have a silent system at full workload and have good temps :)
