Overpaid

Maybe it's a test.

Maybe a few people have been shortlisted for a high-trustworth job and this is how they are selecting people?

That's how I usually view things like this anyway.

EDIT > Thanks for the majority of honest people confirming what I had thought was best, told them about their error, feel better now. Would have been living in guilt otherwise. The warm fuzzy feeling was worth £540 to me, would only have spent it on a couple of meals anyway.

I'm glad you took it back, I think I would although I think I would have been tempted to leave it alone in my bank until they asked for it back. ;)

I just don't see the reason for putting it in a savings account and not telling them, it's not your money and you know that so is it any different than stealing 500 quid from them?

Having told them and them not seeming to care THEN can I keep it?
Yes, but I wouldn't spend it straight away, it wouldn't surprise me if, in 6 months time, they suddenly do care and deduct it from your pay ;)

keep it, act dumb, not everyone goes through their statements with a fine tooth comb ;)

think of it as bonus cash for when your boss starts ranting at you for no reason.
