I ordered something online from America (computer component not available over here) and it was sent by USPS - I take it this comes through to Parcel Force?

This is currently the status via on line tracking.

Firstly.. Delivery attempt at 1.46AM :confused: Anyone else had tracking be wrong?

Someone was here at 1.46pm and didn't hear anything.
 
That could be 1.46 am (american time), or about 6.46am or thereabouts?
Just a thought. They do normally give local time though... :confused:
 
Sounds like the most likely thing that happened.
So, it was either delivered at 6:46 if the company is based on the east coast, 7:46 in central, or 8:46 for west coast.
 
I have a guitar coming from the states, but all I have is a United states postal service, customs declaration and dispatch note CP72. Also have an USPS insured mail reciept.. is there anyway to track?

Im hoping its in the uk now as it was sent on 18th last week, so either parcel force or customs might have it now?
 
Ooooh managed to track my parcel using a number off the reciept. I went on the USPS site and it said...

Its in the country.. ooh yeah. Now what happens? do customs hold it? how long? or does parcel force get it? ditto.

I think customs process it, then they pass onto Parcel Force as it's part of Royal Fail.

I'm assuming I have not received a VAT charge on mine if there was a delivery attempt.

Last time I ordered a PSU from the states, it was held at Parcel Force and they sent a letter out saying how much I needed to pay + a nice little holding fee added on by them before they sent it out.

"Attempted Delivery Abroad" means that the package has been handed to Parcelfarce (and likely requires payment of customs/duty) and it's in one of their international hubs. Or if you're lucky, one of their local hubs. It doesn't mean it's got anywhere near your doorstep unfortunately.

If you've got a USPS "Track and Trace" number, enter it in Parcelforce's tracking form on their website to get its status in this country (IIRC there's a checkbox for 'international parcel'). If it's awaiting customs charges, don't bother waiting for them to send you a letter informing you as such - it will be a very long wait.

Instead, find out which depot it's at and give them a call to confirm it's awaiting charges. Then pop down to the depot yourself (if possible) and pay on the spot. Otherwise you'll just have to sit and wait out the letter arriving before you can pay the charges and get it delivered.

If charges aren't required, then Parcelforce's tracking system should give you an idea of when it's likely to be with you.

Anyone want to take a guess in what import duty will be if the value is declared as $150?

Depends what the item is, duty depends on the type of item rather than the value. Could be anything from 3% to 20%, plus Parcelforce's insane £13.50 handling fee as described above. Headphones I think will be about 3.7% import duty - there's a specific value for electrical hi-fi/musical instruments type stuff. Then 17.5% VAT on top of that.

Say ($150 x 3.7%) x 17.5% = $182.77. So maybe £25 charges including handling fee. Complete guess, maybe more, maybe less!

/edit - PDF from customs here. Not quite sure what headphones come under, but that'll give you a rough idea. You don't have to pay import duty if the duty charge is less than £7.

Well, that's not too much really - I would've had to pay £150+ for the headphones over here, so as long as they don't lose the package I'll be happy. :) Thank for the info, I'm completely ignorant about things like this, I just order and hope it slips thru the net. :D

Went and collected mine on the 25th, had to pay £27.16 which included an 8 pound handling fee from ParcelForce.... :rolleyes:
