Overtaking

HI there

Nothing annoys me more than people who think they are the law and insist on sitting just below the speed limit. If I want to go faster its my choice and to those people who try to block others off or randomly speeding up are just prats.

If I am just in a general mood minding my own business and somebody wishes to overtake then I make it easy for them to pass. If I see a biker coming up in my mirrors then I make it very easy for them to get past. I don't try racing bikes they are faster than cars, simple. The last time I tried to out-accelerate a bike he was practically pulling wheelies on my bumper his bike was so powerful. When we came to a stop he pulled along side, lifted his viser and complemented the car, gave a thumbs up and shot off. :)

However if I am in one of those moods where I want to get where I am going then I will overtake but thankfully I must say that I've never had people flashing me when pulling back in, but I do tend to only overtake when safe to do so. This morning was travelling up hill and the Ford KA in front was driving so slow, I waited hoping they may accelerate upto 30ish, still no such thing so road was clear and just cruised past at 30mph, nobody seemed at all bothered. Though most of the when I overtake people don't get chance to catch back up as I am overtaking because I want to get somewhere or want to drive to my own pace and not somebody elses. :)
I am the type of person when I come upto a national speed limit I just enjoy my car if I am in the mood. :)

The worst overtake i have seen is in 30 zones. I am sticking to 30 On my Fazer through town and in a town i sometimes pass through to go to college there is a long stretch of 30 before hitting the national speed limit, about 30 feet from the national speed limit they just speed up and try to overtake anything abiding the law.

Meh I have been overtaken in a 30 zone exiting a town opposite a police station by some idiot in a ST170. After he overtook me in the 30 I caught up with him as easy as pie as he seemed incapable of doing more than 45mph in a NSL. Utter numpty tbh.

The worst offenders for overtaking however are the people who seem in capable of the maneuver in the first place. Ie they start the overtaking maneuver yet barely accelerate so they spend forever actual overtaking. If I overtake I do it quickly.

One of my friends who I will never get back in the car in since that experience, had the same thing. Safe overtake, but as he was pulling back in the guy he overtook put his foot down so by the time we were back in the correct lane he literally was inches from the bumper - lights flashing, hooting etc.... My friend stupidly decide to show him his brake lights and the other guy threw the anchors out - my friend then slowed and came to a stop and got out of his car. There was an exchange of words (this "friend" is 19stone, 6'3" and looks very intimidating) a bit of pushing about - mainly by my "friend" I'm ashamed to say. Needless to say the other guy was a petrified - but it was such a stupid way to behave by both of them. I've never got back in the car with him since then - he's got such a volatile temper I just hope he doesn't hurt anyone.

Some people really do suffer from ego issues. It's frankly rather sad and pathetic.
I wouldn't be so hard on your friend - he didn't do much wrong in my opinion, it was the other driver who acted foolishly - and potentially very dangerously. He could have caused your friend and yourself to have a serious accident. No wonder your friend was angry about it, I would have been too. I hope the other driver learned his lesson.

Oh the other guy did... I've never seen someone go so pale and surrender so quickly. (No French jokes please....) But still there are some idiots about who wouldn't hesitate to do something stupid. Furthermore had my friend actually braked he'd have been slammed into.

He's just got a bit of a temper problem that's the thing that scares me a little... I would have been angry too - and if I'm honest I don't really know how I would have reacted.

shoulda thrown a keyboard at him

Yeah, thanks for that

If you read my post, you'll see I said that I felt like stopping and having a go at him for his stupid driving, but as I was by myself in the car and didn't want to get myself punched, I left it and drove away.

How does that make me a keyboard warrior?

Glad it's not just me that finds numpty's in the 30 zone annoying - especially on the bike, it's sadly not uncommon for me to have a car stupidly close as I approach the end of a 30 zone, quarter turn later and they're nowhere to be seen but you'd think they got bonus points for trying to ride pillion! That and the (maily female) people carrier types who never check the blind spot before they move out. Yes you may hold your hand up and say sorry but it doesn't mitigate your stupidity endangering me, other road users and your children.

I get this EVERY day. I have to drive through some abysmal roads and getting stuck behind some mindless 40mph idiot can add half an hour EACH WAY to my journey. In the GTO, by the time they ca react, I'm past them and just get blasts of lights.

It got so bad last week I actually pulled over and let the idiot past. Didn't seem to find MY full beams in HIS mirror too comfortable:)

The road rangers are the other category of automotive hatred I have. The 'I'm-not-going-to-let-you-zip-merge-cos-I-think-I know-best' brigade. These are usually the morons with the lane discipline of a demented sheep with no eyes and insist on wandering to and fro aimlessly around roundabouts, xclogging up rush hour traffic.

and relax....
