I work for the greater london authority.

During the olympics a manager was asking people in the department i work for if i could do olympic cover for one particular saturday. He verbally said that i would be paid double time and also receive time of in lieu, this offer was also made to other members of staff.

I agreed to do the over time on those terms. I worked the saturday and the following monday i returned to work as normal. I completed my overtime form and handed it in to come in this months coming payroll.

The beginning of this week i find out that my overtime form has still not been signed. the person who signs the form says he has no knowledge of the overtime agreement made and that he cannot put the overtime through. The manager in question is currently on holiday, the person who signs the overtime forms said he has emailed the manager several times for confirmation but has not received a responce yet however i know the manager has been responding to other people emails. At the same time as i only work 2.5 days a week the double time would have helped me out a lot this month, however since this will not be in this months pay i am general going to be ****ed over.

MY question is:

if the GLA refuse to pay the double time what can i do? I only agreed to the the overtime in the first place because it was double time.

Did you get the overtime terms in writing? If not you're screwed.

not true, if he verbaly agred to overtime, and you have a witness. then you will be paid it.

even if you dont have a witness, you should still be paid it, if you dont, do a formal grievance against the manager in question. explaining that if your not paid it, your going to the union/CIB/escalate to more senior manager.

you will be paid it in the end, you just need to hang on FTW ;)
