Hi guys

I've got a 3rd generation Kindle - the newish one with the keyboard.

I've had it since 2010 and it's a fantastic little machine.

I was using it the other day (after not using it for a while as I've got a new tablet) and noticed a crack in the casing on the right side at 45 degrees from the lower right of the screen.

I've just been checking online and this seems to be a massive and known about fault...if you have a 3rd generation Kindle and it's in it's warranty please check yours carefully for any signs of fatigue.

Now my issue is it seems mine is out of warranty as I've had it over a year (I thought all electrical products had a two year warranty in the UK now?) so I'm expecting a battle to get this swapped as it's a known fault.

Check yours...I'm going to have to contact Amazon and see what they say...any consumer legal eagles think I've got a leg to stand on?

It can easily be argued it's not acceptable for a kindle to not last more than a year without cracking from a known fault.

Thanks for the warning. :)

I've checked mine and it’s ok. I hear that support is very good so you may not have a problem with them.

My wife bought a Kindlefire at xmas and it started acting up. Amazon customer service were brilliant, she had a replacement within 3 days.

Mind you this is Amazon.yank, you'll probably just get laughed at by the the staff at Amazon.co.uk :)

Kindle support is different (better) from Amazon support.

Very unlikely that you'll get any grief from Amazon whatsoever, their support for kindles really is extremely good. They replaced mine a few weeks before warranty expiration after I dropped it, completely my fault, not covered by any warranty whatsoever and they still happily sent me a new one.

Amazon are amazing for Kindle support.

Mine developed a fault long after the year had passed, and they replaced it without question. Top notch.

Just checked mine and there's no cracks, then again I don't throw it about the place and blame a "manufacturing fault" when it gets damaged.
