Owners of both PS4 And Xbox One

Ergh. I'm not really getting on with the Xbox One at all, it's far inferior to my PS4 for me.

The whole dashboard really isn't very intuitive... feels a right mess actually and hard to find anything.

I really like the PS4 dash (or whatever they call it these days) as it's easy to find stuff and simple and sleek to use.

Also, why does my Xbone take an age to boot sometimes, I'm sitting there looking at the green boot screen for what feels like an age sometimes... to the point where I'm about to reboot thinking it's crashed.

I won't be selling the Xbone, but I know for sure (at the moment) I will be a PS4 guy this gen, was 360 all the way current gen.

So my recommendation would definitely be the PS4, I think it's a very good console and worth every penny.

Sounds like you're turning it off fully, rather than to standby which is what I suspect most people do. From cold, the One will take over a minute to boot. From standby it comes on in around 10 seconds, which is faster than the PS4 in my experience (though both are more than quick enough for me).

I had both, sold the PS4 as I preferred the One overall. I made a nice profit on the PS4 too :)

Killzone was gorgeous but too boring, while I Ryse on the One was a much better game, for me anyway. Fifa 14 played better on the One, also got The Legends on the Ultimate team.

Both consoles have plus and negative points and really we are lucky have two "Next-Gen" consoles released so close together - this is from a gamer/gadget freak point of view.

2014 will be a very interesting year for both consoles.

In what way fifa played better on the x1:confused:

Indeed I powered it off fully all the time, but I do with the PS4 as well and there is no such lag on boot with that. It really feels like an unnaturally slow boot thou.

I do need to get use to putting the systems on standby when I'm going to use them again thou.

Yeah, the PS4 boots up quicker from cold. I really have no clue what takes the Xbox so long, I guess there are certain applications starting up in the background that make it take so long. Much much quicker from standby though, especially if you use the "Xbox On" command. I can walk into my living room and it will be on by the time I've sat down and picked up my controller.

I'll give standby mode a go next time, not used it yet. Used the "Xbox On" command though, that makes me smile :)

I wonder if this is caused by the Kinect Initialisation (because of how integrated it is into the OS)?

Like you, both my consoles are left in standby mode (XB1 for kinect and PS4 for remote play).

The funniest thing for me so far which makes it all worthwhile on my XO over the weekend. I was playing Fifa with some mates (winner stays on) and I completely forgot that the XO version has that Kinect feature where the ref listens to you

I'm not kidding the amount of red cards that were dished out was hilarious :D One bad foul and me or one of my mates would shout out something like "oh come on you stupid ****ing ref how was that a foul" if the Kinect heard you boom red card for "arguing with the ref" lol.

So for me that alone is good enough reason for to <3 my XO.

As for PS4 I don't own one yet but it looks ok from what I have seen of it round my mates. I will pick it up next year once more games come out for it like Infamous. But I have to say the DS4 is extremely nice I was quite surprised by it.

Don't really see why Kinect integration would make it take so long to start up.

My guess is it's because MS have ported a version of Windows over to the Xbox One - it's plain to see even just from the build number in the system information menu. Making a whole new OS from scratch would surely have been a better option just like Sony did.

That said, I'm fine with the Xbox One's dash when it's up and running. It does the job but feels a bit messy at the same time. You get used to it though and I'm sure MS will only improve things.

I knew PS4 was quicker to install than Xbone but hadn't realised how big the gap was!

"The full list of tested titles and their install times can be found below. For the purpose of this test both consoles were connected to WiFi with a moderate download speed of around 10Mbps.

Assassin’s Creed IV:
Xbox One (offline, no update): 5 minutes 50 seconds
Xbox One (with update): 10 minutes 32 seconds
PS4: 42 seconds

Need For Speed Rivals:
XB1: 09:25
PS4: 00:32

Just Dance 2014:
XB1: 08:48
PS4: 00:45

NBA Live 14:
XB1: 16:26
PS4: 00:35

FIFA 14:
XB1: 16:06
PS4: 00:34

Madden 25:
XB1: 09:38
PS4: 00:38"

Also see the Xbone now confirmed to offer 362gb of user accessible storage compared to 408gb on PS4

The difference in install times is mental! That must be how long before the game is ready to play, not a complete install?
