Kind of following on from the Richmond sausage thread..

What possible justification can anyone actually have for spending money on any relatively modern French car?
And I don't mean the proper stuffs they used to make, such as 205 GTi, 405 Mi16, R5 GT etc etc.
What makes someone wake up in the morning and think a French car will in some way improve their quality of life?
If you own one, then please do tell, because I can't think or a single reason other than the enjoyment of self-flagellation as to why one would purchase one.

I've tended to own Nissans the last 5 years though sadly, probably due to the Renault alliance, some of the same stuff creeps in.

Because not everyone is a car enthusiast and simply want a stylish(in their eyes) and practical car to get them from A to B?

The hatchbacks really arent bad.

Edit: Should also say I don’t own one but had a Renault as my first car (more years ago than I’d like to remember) and it was faultless for the 4 years I had it.

508 GT, 2019.

Because I liked the look of it, it stood out in a sea of 320d and A180d cars.

Had french cars most of my driving life, early stuff and more modern ones, gets me to work and back and has some tech which I like.

Mrs has a '22 2008.

No idea why, I think mainly because she wanted something bigger than her old c3 and the dealer she had the PCP through basically threw money at her to buy it back and sell her the 2008.

To be honest other than the lack of physical buttons/dials for things like climate control and the fact the reversing camera has no IR mode and just relies on the reversing lamp at night, it's actually not a bad small car on stilts to drive.

Current Renaultsport Hyperhatches are top of the class & made & designed with the input of the Alpine (was Renault) Formula 1 team brimming with F1 technology & not built on the same production lines as the mass produced Renaults.

But many other modern ICE Renault are superb cars, look great, ultra reliable & come with a fantastic array of options & specs for way less money than the equivalent german car.

Not sure why some dislike them as so much to love & they look stylish in all the right places but haters gotta hate something I guess........

apart from peugot steering wheel (but tesla and bmw yokes rapidly levelling that field) - 408 has a lovely rear,
on the back of the reliable stellantis gimp platfrom looks like they will be first with a electric estate (id7 too expensive) - so lot's of positives.
adoption of android automotive, too.

Yes lots of nostalgic love for renault laguna/nevada, pug 306 that mates had in France and drove/driven in regularly.

thought the DS(9?) that charles was driven in on Champ's elycee was a horrible advertisement though.

Not just French brands, far too many cars seem poorly designed these days especially in terms of access to anything.
Yes, I agree, but the French just seem to plop a component on the bench and build an entire car around it.
I work at 2 garages and almost all the gripes and moans are ref French cars, to which I can't disagree with.
