After the largest single platter P-ATA drive available to put inside an Icy Box firewire/USB2.0 enclosure.

Overclockers stock the following two:
Hitachi 7K160
Seagate 7200.10 160GB
Not sure if the Western Digital models are single platter or not.

I'm assuming the performance difference between the two will be balanced out by the enclosure. So out of the two listed which would be the most suitable?

Considerations include low vibration, cool operation, quietness, etc.

The warranty of the Seagate is a bonus, but don't fancy my chances of getting a noisy motor if the same holds true for low capacity models.

Already got a Samsung SP1654N.

If you're looking for single platter for speed then there's no point, the interface back to the PC is a bottleneck. You won't see the true potential of an external drive unless you go for eSATA or SCSI.

The WD AAJS series is a single platter but OCUK only have it in SATA (not sure if they even do a PATA version).

Neither the Seagate or the Hitachi is a bad drive and there's very little difference in price so it's a tough call which to go for - I'd be tempted to toss a coin.
