Wonder what's going on here then. Hope nobody is planning on travelling today...https://news.sky.com/story/p-o-ferries-suspends-all-sailings-ahead-of-major-announcement-12568327
''Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) general secretary Mick Lynch said there is "growing speculation that the company are today planning to sack hundreds of UK seafarers and replace them with foreign labour".Where'd this rumour come from?
DP World, based in Dubai (apparently)Who owns them? Can't see them on Freetrade. Now would be a great time to lump some cash on them.
Problem with flying is you then have to hire a car at the other end.Have to say i'm not surprised theyre struggling given the prices. We were looking to go over to ireland in the summer and it was £400+ return for 2 adults + 2 kids in a car, compared to £200 for flights.
We looked in to it in 2020 as we had a two week trip booked for Ireland and with flying and hiring a car for 14 days it was hugely more expensive than just taking our own.True, but even with that taken into account, the cost is around the same, and it's a 1hr flight from an airport 10 minutes drive away vs a 6 hr crossing with a 2hr drive to the port and back
On a yacht in the Bahamas perhaps. They should all find out where he lives and pay him a visit. I bet he is out of the country till it all cools down.
Well, it sucks, but realistically I doubt they are going to be getting their jobs back, so the 'sensible' course of action would probably be to take the money and move on. P & O has rightly suffered huge reputational damage though.Yeah its pretty much practice now when you offer enhanced redundancy its conditional on signing a contract / NDA (hybrid compared to what we would historically think) that specifically excludes comments on details of the agreement and also later suing the company for failure to follow unemployment law or unfair dismissal etc
As such you need to see a solicitor (company will pay something like £350) so that your solicitor can advise whether you should or shouldn't sign.
I tend to find myself thinking its a good thing generally. I would much rather walk out with an enhanced package, cut my losses and accept it than fighting and losing anyway, walking out with more money will always be better than statutory.
Without a doubt I would have considered them the same company. They probably need to look at that really considering the fall out from this.Right...
Not the fault of people who don't know what they are talking about.
They are being refilled, allegedly with people on 2 quid an hour.No problem with them being made redundant as long as their positions are actually redundant and not being refilled.
Still driving an Austin Montego?Usually whatever the British option is. Obviously there isn't one with some things like TV's. Other things such as food, then a UK grown item if possible. Trainers, check out Walsh. Toaster is Dualit.
Do you consider yourself an 'entitled Brit' and would you be happy on £5,50 an hour? And? He doesn't run a charity, he runs a business. The global model for seafaring is get dirt cheap folk. How can he be competitive if he is the only one paying entitled Brits mega salaries?
Are you on more or less than their salary, and if so do you feel jealous or just want them to be on less than you? They aren't working in the UK market. They are working on a ship that goes country to country. They'll get full board/fed/watered. They'll then get paid to return to wherever they came from.
The Brits do it to seek high salaries on mega yachts.
The severance packages they got were enormous indicating inflated salaries. They were paid for every hour they were simply present - whether they were working or not. Most of the seafaring world moved away from this model decades ago because paying people to do nothing isn't a good model.
