P180 or v1000+ ?

Both very nice cases. The Lian Li wins on quality. I persoanlly prefer the look of the p180 and I like the fact that it has a door. IMO the Lian Li has a better internal layout. Ive got a p180, but with retrospect I would maybe go for the v1000+ now. So I wouyld say go for the Lian Li, but if you prefer the look of the p180, you wouldnt be dissapointed with that choice either.

Edit;

P180 is nice but watch out for what PSU you use.
Only a few have long enough cables.
You can also use a p4 extension cable if your PSU cables arn't long enough.

mmm, as its a new rig I'd make sure the psu fit for the specific case :)

They both look stunning to me though, also I'vwe heared of some door bending issues with the p180. It does look nice though :P

how does the cooling match for both? Also the sound? Would the p180 block more sound as its a closed case and has the layered walls?

The case doesnt really make that much of a difference when it comes to sound levels. Its much more down to the components/fans used. As for the door warping, yes it does still happen occasionally AFAIK. However Antec's support is great and they will send out a reinforced door for free if you have any problems. Im not 100% sure, but I think the SPCR special edition of the p180 comes with the reinforced door as standard.

ooo right ok, interesting about the sound. I would have thought the walls on the p180 would have made a diff. No prob.

After reading over reviews the lian li , to me, looks a lot nicer "overall" Inside looks better imo too.

The case sides do make a difference.
I have 3 120mm fans goin a fair old speed and with the door shut on the P180 the front fan can hardly be heard.
When I have the fans on low they cannot be heard at all.
Also the black case sides are a bit lighter than the "silver"ones.
Antec sent me black ones to replace the silver ones that ended up with busted plastic lugs/hooks even tho their policy is to only replace same with same.
They also sent me a new 120x38mm fan

OMG!!111one Yewen hasnt replied yet?

And Id go for the V1000+ :) Why? Well Yewen should answer that soon.

The sides do NOT make a difference, same components in the v1000+ will be the same noise. Period.

The P180 is built worse than the v1000+, they can both cool anything you can get and the v1000+II is a nice case with a side blowhole, although I am unsure of the availability at the moment as they will be called just the +.

I would go for the v1000+ as I personally think its the best case out there at the moment.

On a side note, if your willing to wait a little while (days/weeks) have a look at the S80, only case that has interested me this much since the original v1000. Low CFM, copying Windy's dual panel case design so will be one of the few cases that actually is good for noise, purely because it has two pannels.

v1000+ gets my vote, holds its value better than the P180 when you come to sell it aswell.

HOW many people do you know who would pay you good money for a used case?

A lot. Look at MM the cases usually go very quickly, especially v1000+'s they get snapped up within the hour usually.

Same fans in the Cheiftec and the Antec then?

The Cheiffy case if it is a dragon varient does nothing for the noise.

But a loud graphics card in one case, is loud in another, a quiet PC in one is quiet in another case. Unless the PC makes a absolute racket the case being different will make no difference, maybe fan hum but you have to be very very quiet in the first place. The Antec does not magically make the noise disappear.

As for good quality cases holding their value, they do so very well. Most Lian Li cases are snapped up within hours on MM. And the custom anodised ones even faster.

I am going to acousipad a old p2 450mhz system soon.

Monitor temperatures using a TR3a and also record how noisey it is to my ears.

If the padding will make a difference it will do it with 40mm fans.

mmm... 40mm fans, my favourite :) It might be worth trying to set up a slightly more scientiffic way of measuring the sound.(Not that im saying your ears are no good :p )

Unless anyone can think of anything I could do, bar using my noise cancelling mics not much more I can think of.

:(

Only problem is its noise cancelling, it deadens out a vacuum so I doubt it would be reliable enough.

Could record on my phone, but I dont know if I can get sound clips from my W800i to my PC or not. Will ask Haly about that as I would imagine that would be the best method as it picks up loads of background noise on voice recorder.

Why, not got any friends with mics? :(

Friends..... nah not with mics. :p

I have my Medusa headset, but that cancels to much.

Yes I can use the w800i to record to PC.

Will use that.

Now the question, what else could I try out?
