im looking to upgrade my old system which consists of a p4-3.0 and 1.5 gig pc3200. Im looking at going for a q6600 with 4gig ddr2-800mhz (and yeah i know about the vista 32bit issue)....

Will this be a worthwhile upgrade ? I do a lot of photoshop related stuff etc...

Why? I'm happy with my 32 bit setup
I think he is talking to the O.P! :D

I'm still on 32-Bit WinXP Pro but I believe 64-Bit Vista is where I would spend my money if changing O/S.

Wow that sounds like a kickass system from 2003/2004, is that a HT P4 then?

I don't think u can really upgrade that system but for sure you would notice a nice improvement building a brand new rig.

Can't recommend the Q6600 though, sure its a nice chip but it does use a ton of electric when its overclocked (which I assume you may attempt?).

As you may or may not know INTEL have updated their line of processors with a die shrink and some new tech, you should check out either a dual-core using the Wolfdale core (E7200, E8200, E8400) or a Quad-Core based on Yorksfield (Q9450).

Apparently there are some price cuts coming soon so get saving and good luck! :)

Only problems from 64bit iv ever seen is if your playing with pre 2002 ish softwarem aka anything that wants the 16bit world, and in my opinion they should be left there (cept for 16bit games, they almost always are better than the new world remakes aka broken sword, monkey island n so on) :)

Anyway almost any of the core based intels will be awsome (i got the e8200 and still smile at how amazingly nice it is)
