Got a reply from Asus support
Noooooooooo!!! It says on the box that it supports processors of 3.2ghz + (plus!) isn't that false advertising?
*Sigh* well... what do you think I should do? Keep it and overclock it, or sell it and keep my 2.4ghz?
I'll be getting a whole new system at the end of the year. I just wanted to inject a bit of life into my current system to tide me over (to help make Oblivion run smoother.)
Oh while I have this thread, would it be worth replacing my 6800 ultra with a X1950 Pro? Would a P4 2.8ghz bottleneck it too much to see a difference? Its mostly to run Oblivion at mid-high settings with smooth fps.

You will find only PCB2.01 version P4S800 support P4 3.4E GHZ CPU,
if your board is PCB 1.0x series, CPU will run at 2.8GHZ only.
You can find your PCB version on motherboard surface,
it is printed as ASUS P4S800 REV1.XX, then the string 1.XX is the PCB version of your motherboard.
