I have a P4 570 (3.8ghz),
My stock hs&f was starting to click so I have fitted a Zelman CNPS7700-Cu.
I didn't fit speed control thing to the board becasue I wanted to see how loud it would be like that.
My Mobo is an MSI 7046 (OEM) in the bios there are no temp monitor & the software on the MSI site says it does not support my mobo.
I downloaded a program called speedfan and it reports that the cpu fan is running between 38-43c when whatching somthing on media plater ant browsing net and 60c ish when running oblivion.

So my questions are

1. What should a P4 570 be running at ?
2. Anyone know any better software to monitor ?

Also anything else helpful would be welcome

Thanks for reading

Speedfan's really your best bet.

For a P4 570, those temps are fine. They do run quite toasty.

Hi again,

Airflow is fine I am Using a Thermaltake Lanfire case it has 4 fans, theres nobig bunchs of cables that should cause a problem

It may be me worrying about nothing (I wish I had taken temps before swaping)
I just ran prime95 for 2 hours and it leveled out at 68 went up to 71 but kept going down again.

what would be considered a bad temp as I know prescots run hot but 68c ?

thanks again for reading

Just Ran a 20 min test with S&M only got to 69c but S&M reported it as 65c at that point (I realise people have bigger issues I'm just worry) So which result is acurate ?

Thanks again, again for reading :)

dunno, but my friend is using a Zalman CNPS9500 without any case fans (apart from the psu fan and a 120mm silent exhaust fan) and runs about 60oC at full load 3.8Ghz (3.2Preskott overclocked) with 28oC room temp. Though that zalman cooler uses heatpipes and could run better so... i think these temps of yours could be normal.

Might worth checking the contact is ok.

Your temps are normal.

The 570J is one of the worst Prescotts for temps due to severe current leaks and the main reason Intel quickly bought the 6 series out with EIST, C1E & TM1 (all features designed to lower CPU temps).

I have the 670J CPU and with a Zalman9500 get late 60s after a long time gaming or some other CPU intensive task.

If you run your Zalman7700 @ full RPM then it should give you another 3-5C better temps otherwise you need either a Zalman9500 to give better results.

Remember that Intel designed these CPUs to run hot (72.5C approx is the max temp before thermal throttling kicks in). Most Bios over report the temp values as much as 10C due to the sensor placement so you are well within spec.
