Hiya,

Just installed a P4 805 Dual core with the standard heatsink/fan.

Under CPU load, the fan spins up to about 4600rpm and sounds like a jumbo jet.

I'm guessing the CPU is just getting hot so speedfan is cutting in.

Has anyone else had this?
Is it worth taking the heatsink off and putting some thermal compound on? I know it's got the standard stuff, but it's not as good as say, Arctic Silver?

Any idea's? In BIOS, CPU temp is at about 63c after using it normally which doesn't seem *too* bad.

if i were you id get rid of that heatsink as they are noisy, get a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, cheap this week at oc
and try some arctic silver like you say, as little as you can get away with,
that should bring the temp and the noise down

The noise is fine when it's being normal.. as soon as it spins up to 4000+, it's just unbearable.

That fan definetly won't fit into the case, hehe.
