Currently i have a standard P4 3.0 ghz S478 processor but i have been offered a 3.4ghz extreme edition for £60. Is it worth upgrading ?

Other systems specs:

Abit IC7-Max3 mobo
1.5GB DDR 400 ram. (generic stuff)
6800gt gfx

not in my opinion, theyre both single core cpu's arent they iirc and as such 0.4Ghz isn't really worth 60 quid :)

You can get your P4 3.0GHz sold off for around £35 so sure, why not! The EE CPU will be able to scale to higher clock speeds too.

Buy it for £40 , You can still get 80+ for these chips ! There very rare and extremely fast !

Buy for £40 . If you dont like , Sell For £80+

They've got 2mb L3 cache, the Gallitin based EE's on 478 produce less heat than Prescott and they are all "30 capper" chips which tend to clock quite nicely in the region of 3.7GHz and 4.0GHz.
