Can anyone tell me if clocking my cpu to 3.7Ghz is safe running at about 50-55C with only cpu fan and 4 90mm case fans.

The temperature was *** cpu tester reported back on the first test i cancelled as didnt want to burn out the chip not just yet.

Couple more months before i upgrade again

Fine if thats under full load, chips don't roast that easily. Curious though, have you actually run anything like prime95 or orthos to check for stability?

i used hot cpu tester pro but i will use one of the ones you mentioned if you think they are any better for testing purposes

Most of the later P4 chips are designed for operation upto ~70C depending on the model - but I wouldn't advise running them over 60C max, especially if you are putting extra voltage into it.

Yes, that will be alright, is it a N/wood or Prescott, as the N/wood will run cooler. The N/wood don't generally O/C more than 3.8GHz, while the Prescott is good for around 4GHz. :)

Depends if you have a notrhwood or prescott, for northwood i say 55 really MAX, and for prescott 65-70 max... ( having owned both a 3.4 nw and scott )

Its a Northwood CPU. So really not much chance of overclocking it unless a get some decent cooling fan on it as it only has the standard Intel fan.

Looked at one of the Zalman flower cpu coolers maybe it will do a decent cooling job

it is safe, its just if you clock it too much it wont boot windows, etc, or you may have to reset cmos(unlickly)

as long as you dont what 5v throught the chip then you are very unlickly to kill it, however to have it stable is an art :p
