I currentley have a P4 478 prescott 3gig processer used with an asus p4p800-x and a ati 800xl gpu card :rolleyes: it's ok but im now looking to go down the much hyped amd 64 path! :D Which cpu and mobo do you peps recommend for a significant preformance increase without costing a mint? :confused:, Also i would like to keep my agp card if prossible! ;)
 
For that money I would get the X2 3800+ and the AsRock Dual SATA2 which has AGP and PCI-E slots in case you want PCI-E in the future. Its about £50 if you search Froogle.

Yeah, I dont think you can get anything better than that with keeping your current graphics card.
 
Cool ;) Will it be a huge performance increase on what i currentley have?, Dont want to be forking out £250 for very little over what iv got already!, :rolleyes: Whats the overclock potencial with that combo?, Iv managed to get my current p4 at 3.7gig stable!.
 
It should be a noticeable performance increase

The X2 3800+ is two 3200+ cores. Each core will perform like a 3.2GHz P4, so the X2 3800+ will be rival to the PD 840. It's a lot quicker though

The X2 3800+ is a great clocker so you should easily get 2.6-2.7GHz out of it making it perform like an X2 4800+ (higher clock but lower cache)

It sure is! and its the same CPU & Mobo combo im using that your on about, but the overclocking can kinda suck as the bios is quite limited, although i have seen the Asrock939 being overclocked very succesfully once or twice, depends on what ya know!

Fine for me though, im happy with stock ATM.... ;)

I got mine to 2.65ghz with the asrock board and X2 3800+. The overclocking features on the board are not the best, there is limited voltage.
There is a HTT limit but if you download the latest bios this will remove it.
