Am I right in thinking that the P45 is actually newer than the X48? The X48 has ICH9 while the P45 has ICH10. Does one chipset/board perform better than the other? What are the benefits aside from the P45 being cheaper of owning a P45?

Thank youuuuuuuuuu :D

Yup the Intel® P45 Express is newer than the Intel® X48 Express, the latter offers two PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots which should help achieve slightly higher framerates at high resolution when using a pair of Crossfired cards, having said that the P45 can run a pair of Crossfired cards just fine.

For really hardcore gamers who want to extract every last FPS from their Crossfire set-up the natural choice is now Intel® Core™ i7 and the Intel® X58 Express platform.

A single GPU running on the Intel® P45 Express does me fine!

Yeah, the X48 chipset was just made up of speed-binned X38 chips. They're great boards but the P45s are the newest socket 775 tech, and the best overclockers.

do you think that you would notice a dramatic difference from the P45 to the X48 in the terms of running two cards crossfired?
