Hi

Just got a P5B / E6600 / 2GB Giel 4-4-4-12 memory.

Running Win2K on it

Asus probe reports CPU temp at around 45-50C. Is this normal?

I had trouble installing the heatsink as the instructions were pitiful and the mechanical design of the thing is atrocious. Having said that im fairly confident the heatsink is in place (to the best of its crap design).

Do i need to install any patches to Win2K to run the core2duo?

chrs

Sounds a bit high to me unless you mean under load or you are overclocked.

For example my E6600 is currently 27c (core 29/32) when idle at stock.

Shouldn't need any special patches for win2k, just make sure it is patched up to the latest and that you have the intel chipset drivers for the mobo. The ones on Intel's site should be the latest ones.

Temp does seem high but then I'm not sure many on here are using the supplied HSF, I'm assuming you are as you don't mention a 3rd party one?

Also what's the CPU voltage set to in BIOS, and displayed in ASUS Probe?

With a Noctua and my E6600 @3.2ghz i get mid/high 30's at idle and it just breaks over 50 under Orthos load.

If you don't want to spend on a new HSF maybe just get some Arctic Silver and redo it. The AS should drop the temp a few degrees and if you're unsure of the fitting doing it a 2nd time may help.

oh, and update your sig. :D

My friends who both are using the stock coolers are reporting temps around the 50C mark. I hear these things can get to 70C and be OK so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

If you plan to overclock you should deffo get a new cooler. Nice rig btw :D [see sig ;)]

thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately ive had no end of trouble with this setup, for some reason every time i booted into windows, my hdd's were being seen as blank, dunno if its a bios problem or a win2k problem, lost 500GB of data anyway ;/

Installed XP this time round and it seems ok so far.

My setup is C2D 6600 @ stock, stock HS, Asus P5B, 2GB Geil LL Ram @ 4-4-4-12
2x250GB Spinpoints, 1x500GB Spinpoint, 1x74GB Raptor.

I thought i saw somewhere that this mobo read temps for cpu/mobo wrong way round?

I do have an XP120 from last setup (A64 3700) but i dont know if it will fit?
